The wind of the Holy Spirit will cause it to burn hotter than on the day of Pentecost, and spread rapidly. It will spread with fury and devour all that is not holy. Then He will send the latter rain, wash away the dross, refresh and make new. The Glory of the Lord will be seen by the entire world and manifested through His Church. There begins the end time harvest.

Artist: Kingdom Heirs
Project Title: The Heart Of Christmas
Label: Crossroads
Producers: Crossroads

Merry Christmas to you and yours!  When you combine ten fabulous songs proclaiming the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Who is the reason for the season! and an amazingly talented orchestra to go along with it, you have the Kingdom Heirs “The Heart of Christmas.”  I have always been impressed with the work of the Kingdom Heirs.  “The Heart of Christmas” has it all: new and old, hymns, more contemporary, secular and Christian, and an old favorite that Charles Schulz would be impressed with in song number seven, “Charlie Brown Christmas.”

“The Heart of Christmas” the first song and also the name of the Kingdom Heirs’ project, features the tenor singer (Jerry Martin), with solid harmony and instrumentals accompanying it.  A message that can easily be taken away is that with all of the “hustle and bustle” of this time of year, we should all just slow down and really think about the meaning of Christmas.  Jesus, whose purpose was to be born so that He could die, and die as a sin substitute for the penalty that should come to us.  Great song with a great message!  “Do You Hear What I Hear” is song number two on this project.  With a strong instrumental accompaniment, this song points to the star, the song and the Son of God.   The tenor, the bass (Jeff Chapman) and the lead (Arthur Rice) each sing a verse of this time treasured song, and then four part harmony takes the last verse.  Awesome song! The next song on this project is titled “Go Tell (Go Tell it on the Mountain.)”  Featuring Arthur Rice on this, along with a “bluesy” accompaniment, the song tells us to tell the Good News that we have of Jesus.  The song finishes in the more traditional “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”  As Christians we cannot keep this wonderful message inside once we have the message, we have to go tell others that Jesus Christ is LORD!!

Artist: Karen Peck and New River
Project Title: Georgia Mountain Christmas
Label: KPNR Music Courtesy of Daywind Records
Producers: John Darin Rowsey

This project was recorded in 2011 but we just got it from Daywind for review in the past couple of days.  The project is the very first Christmas project ever recorded by Karen Peck and New River.  I usually wait a few days and listen to a CD several times before writing a review but I have listened to it four or five times already and I cannot wait to review it so, here we go!  The project is titled “Georgia Mountain Christmas” and you will enjoy this project tremendously.

The project begins with an upbeat song titled “Joy Has Come To The World.”  What a great song written by John Darin Rowsey and Niles Borop.  It reminds us of the incredible joy that came to earth on that first Christmas morning!  The well-known “Christmas Time Is Here” is next and it features Karen and Ricky’s daughter, Kari Gooch.  She does a fantastic job singing this great Christmas Classic.  The title cut is next and “Georgia Mountain Christmas” is a new song written by John Darin Rowsey, Karen Peck Gooch and Susan Peck Jackson.  The song talks about Christmas on the Georgia Mountain which sounds a lot like the Christmas Memories I have from Christmas in Upstate New York!  “Season For Believin’” is the next song and this song reminds us of all the things we believe in at Christmas time!  It is a great, upbeat song that you will enjoy.

Project Title: Bethlehem Sky
Label: Independent
Producers: Donna King

Here at the Southern Gospel Music Forum we sometimes do not review Christmas projects the same year they come out given the short period of time we have to review them.  However, as long as we have never reviewed the project before, we are always happy to review them no matter when they were released and recorded.  Mercy’s Well released “Bethlehem Sky” in 2012 and we are thrilled to be reviewing this one right now.

The project gets off to a rousing start with “Caroling, Caroling” and I know of no other song that can set the Christmas season and spirit better than this one!  This leads us right into “Sing Joy.”  This is a song that I have never heard before but the song focuses on the joy that came to us when Jesus came to earth and brought us salvation.  “Christmas Instead” is a catchy song written by Donna King and Rachel Perry and I absolutely love this song and the message of it!  It reminds us of some of the things we associate with Christmas but then it reminds us what that true meaning of Christmas actually is!  One of the common themes of Christmas songs is peace and “A Little Peace On Earth” is a wonderful song that is wishing just a little peace on this crazy earth.

Mercy’s Well goes back and gets the old Christmas classic, “Angels We Have Heard On High” next and this is a lively and fun arrangement of this classic song.  “When A Savior Dreams” is a unique song that wonders what our Savior might have dreamed about.  It is a song that certainly puts a different perspective on the Christmas message but it is a good song.  One of my favorite of the “modern” Christmas songs is “Ordinary Baby.”  Strangely enough I have not heard that many versions of this song but Mercy’s Well has an outstanding version and I love it!  “Let There Be Light” reminds the listener of the Light that came into the world to dispel the darkness on that first Christmas Day.

Browns - Love Loud

Artist: Browns
Project Title: Love Loud
Label: StowTown Records
Producers: Wayne Haun

It has been a couple of years since I have heard new music from the Browns but I just recently received their brand new project and all I can say is wow!  What an amazingly talented group this family has developed into.  Their recent project is “Love Loud” and this project does a great job showcasing the talent of this family.

The title song of the project is first up and group members Shelly Brown and Michaela Brown were joined by Jeff Baumgardner as the writers for this song.  The song is an upbeat song that conveys a message of the type of love we should have towards each other and, of course, we need to portray the love that Christ has for us to others!  The next song on the project is “Rock And Redeemer” and the only way I can think to describe this song is cool!  The message of the song is great as it talks of Christ being our rock and redeemer when we need a shelter but it is the great music in this song that really draws the listener in and gets them to hear that message.  Most any Southern Gospel project includes songs of hope and encouragement.  However, I have heard very few that are better than “The One Who Still Works Miracles” which is the next song on this project.  This song is followed by another one that Shelly and Michaela collaborated on along with Rachel McCutcheon.  This is an up-tempo song but “The Captain’s Got It Under Control” is another song of encouragement as it reminds us that God has every storm of yours and my life under control!

Artist: Milby Family
Project Title: When I Sing
Label: Independent
Producers: Donna Beauvais

I have said it many times before but I really do enjoy getting projects from artists that I have never heard of!  I got one a couple of weeks from the Milby Family and this was my introduction to this fine group!  The project is a good one and I believe it will be a stepping stone for this group to grow their ministry and it will help them to get more and more fans!

The project starts out with the title cut.  “When I Sing” is the first song as well as the title of the project.  The song is an upbeat one and I love it!  Life really is so much better when we sing the encouraging message of Jesus Christ!  The next song is written by group members Robin and Tess Milby and “You Are On The Inside” is a phenomenal song that reminds us that we can have great peace on the inside because that is where Jesus lives!  No matter what is going on around us on the outside, Jesus is on the inside!  Awesome message and awesome song!  A Southern Gospel classic is next with “He’s A Personal Savior.”  I have heard countless groups sing this song and this version is a very good one.  The Milby Family follows up a classic Southern Gospel song with an incredible, old hymn.  The song is “At The Cross” and they have a beautiful and unique a cappella arrangement of this great old hymn.
