As I have mentioned before, the landscape of Southern Gospel Music is changing. While quartets and family groups are still quite prevalent, there are many other groups and soloists that are making their way into the industry and finding quite a bit of success. One of those artists is Wilburn and Wilburn. The father and son team have a project called “Shoulders” and it is a very enjoyable collection of Southern Gospel Music.

The project begins with an upbeat song titled “This Wouldn’t Be The Same Song.” This song is a perfect reminder of how much different our life would be without Jesus in it. I know I would hate to think where I would be without Him. “It’s What He’s Done” is the next song on the project and this beautiful ballad reminds us that “it’s not what we do but it is what He’s done.” What a great message! The tempo picks up with “Love Without End, Amen” and this song reminds us that God’s Love never ends and we can always depend on it.

I absolutely love the next song! It says “Sin Is No Match For Grace” and I am sure that you can tell from the title that it has a great message. The upbeat tempo is wonderful as well and the message is tremendous as it reminds us that God’s Grace can cover any sin. The next song is what I sometimes refer to as a “thinking” song. What I mean is that the song makes you stop and thing. The title of the song is “You Asked Him To Leave.” It talks of how many people question how God could allow to happen some of the things that happen in this world today but in reality, many people have asked God to leave. I really enjoy songs about prayer and “Prayer Is All I Need” is a great one. The song is a great reminder of the power of prayer. The pace quickens again with “Living Proof” and this song reminds us that the fact that Jesus raised from the dead gives us living proof that He is alive!

The title song of the project as Jonathon and Jordan sing “Shoulders.” The song talks of the dreams and plans of our fathers and grandfathers being shoulders for future generations to stand on. “Where The Love Of God Is Gonna Go” is the next song on the project and I love the message of this song that proclaims there is nowhere that the love of God cannot go. It can reach anyone, anywhere, anytime! The final song on the project is the familiar Gaither classic, “The Old Rugged Cross Made The Difference.” The timeless message in this song never gets old and I always love hearing this song again.

Jonathon and Jordan Wilburn have been singing together for a few years now and we have come to expect quality recordings from them. This project is a good one and is filled with outstanding songs with strong messages and good vocal performances. My favorite songs from the project are “Sin Is No Match For Grace,” “Living Proof” and “It’s What He’s Done.” Wilburn and Wilburn has a good, solid project here that will thrill their fans and likely get them several more.
