A few decades ago I attended a Southern Gospel Music concert. At this concert, I met a bass singer who would go on to become one of my all-time favorite singers. His name was Rex Nelon. To be honest, as a teenage boy that day, I was likely more interested in meeting a couple of other singers named Kelly and Janet but I found all of the members of the group to be incredibly nice that day. However, it was Rex that talked a long time to me and answered every question I had about singing in a group and being a part of the Southern Gospel industry. Questions I am sure he had answered a thousand times before. Today, Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark and the rest of their family, Amber and Autumn are carrying on the legacy of the Nelons. One of their new projects is titled “Stronger Together” and I believe this project shows just how strong this group is and will be for many years to come.

The project begins with a song titled “In My Father’s House” and this song it a wonderful reminder of the many blessings that awaits us in God’s House! It is also the brand new radio single for the Nelons! Jason Clark and Constant Change wrote the next song titled “One Little Word.” What a great song this is as it reminds us that the name of Jesus is one little word but it is the solution and answer to every problem and question we face in this world. “Family Chain” is a song written by Joe Isaacs and it speaks of our loved ones who have gone on to Glory. It has a beautiful message of hope as we think of joining our loved ones one day in Heaven.

Bill and Gloria Gaither have written some of the greatest songs in Southern Gospel Music history. The Cathedrals sang some of those songs they wrote and one of my favorites is “Then Came The Morning.” I love this song of victory as it reminds us of the day that Christ was crucified for our sins but then came the morning when He rose again! The Nelons do a great job on this favorite of many people. “Gate Of Heaven” is one of those songs that takes off and just goes! It is some good, old-fashioned Southern Gospel Music but be sure to listen closely to the words because there is a great message too! Karen Peck Gooch traveled with the Nelons for a lot of years and she joins them on a song titled “You Can’t Make Old Friends.’ The song made me reminisce about and give thanks for some of my old friends and I am sure it will do the same for you.

“The Awakening” is the next song on the project and this slow, melodious song is a beautiful one that takes the listener on a journey of a dream of peace and serenity only to climax with an awakening into a life of peace and serenity with Jesus Christ. The Bible is the Christian’s source for all things in life. Gold City had a popular song several years ago titled “I Think I’ll Read It Again.” The Nelons have revived this song and they do an outstanding job singing this song about reading the Bible over and over again! The final song on the project is titled “Angels Hover Near You.” It is a new song written by Bill and Gloria Gaither and what a beautiful song about the moments that you know you are surrounded by angels.

This project by Nelons is one that solidifies their standing as one of the finest traveling today. I am sure that Rex Nelon would be very pleased with this current version of the group that he started. “Stronger Together” is an appropriate name for this project as this family obviously finds their strength in God but also find a source of strength in each other and their family. My favorite songs from this project are “One Little Word,” “Then Came The Morning” and “I Think I’ll Read It Again.” The Nelons have another winner here and you will surely want to add it to your Southern Gospel Music library.
