DOTTIE RAMBO'S FINAL INTERVIEW ON GOSPEL MUSIC TELEVISION (story added May 15)

ATLANTA, GA May 15, 2008 – The “undisputed queen of southern gospel music,” Dottie Rambo, was tragically killed last Sun. May 11 when her tour bus ran off a highway near Mount Vernon, Mo. she was 74.

What is believed to be Rambo’s last public interview will be seen in the newest episode of Gospel Music Channel (GMC) television network biography series Faith & Fame, the network announced today. The original version of Faith & Fame: Dottie Rambo premiered on GMC on April 26 and has been re-edited as a tribute to the Gospel music legend and reflects her untimely passing. The new version of Faith & Fame: Dottie Rambo will premiere Sat. May 17 at 2:00 PM (ET) and be seen again in primetime on Mon. May 19 at 9:00 PM (ET/PT)

Rambo was interviewed for her Faith & Fame episode on March 27th, 2008 at NorthStar Studios in Nashville.

Dottie Rambo began writing songs at the age of eight and her career took off as a teenager as a songwriter and a performer. Her distinctive voice and affecting delivery won her legions of fans and her career soared through the early '80s. But health problems arose and sidelined her for almost two decades. She returned triumphantly in 2003 with the release of her “Stand By The River” album; her title track duet with Dolly Parton became a hit and won accolades. Rambo also earned a Dove Award for her song, “I Go to The Rock," sung by Whitney Houston in the motion picture 'The Preacher's Wife." Others artists who have recorded Rambo’s songs include: Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Barbara Mandrell, Dottie West, Crystal Gayle, Larry Gatlin, Sandy Patti, Tom T. Hall, Vince Gill, Bill Gaither, Andrae Crouch and many others. CROSS 4 CROWNS SIGNS DISTRIBUTIONS AGREEMENT WITH CROSSROADS (story added May 15)

PATRICK HENRY HUGHES TO APPEAR AT NQC (story added May 14)

Louisville, KY - The National Quartet Convention has announced the special guest appearance of Patrick Henry Hughes to the 2008 National Quartet Convention. The event is set to take place during the week of September 8 through 13 at the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center in Louisville, KY.

According to NQC Vice President, Clarke Beasley, Hughes will make a special appearance on Thursday, September 11. “We are thrilled to have this extremely gifted young man as a part of the 2008 NQC. His life and the devotion of his family have literally inspired our entire nation, and we believe his performance and testimony at NQC will be talked about for years to come.”

Hughes is a remarkable young man who was born without eyes and without the ability to fully straighten his arms and legs, making him unable to walk. Additionally, steel rods were surgically attached to Hughes’ spine to correct scoliosis. Despite unfathomable circumstances, Hughes overcame many physical adversities and has excelled as a musician and student. Hughes first began playing piano at just nine months of age, and currently participates in the University of Louisville School of Music Marching and Pep Bands. THE TALLEY'S AND CROSSROADS CELEBRATE NUMBER ONE SONG (story added May 14)

Arden, NC- The Talley Trio and the staff of Crossroads recently celebrated the success of the Talley Trio’s #1 May single “The Broken Ones” with a party at the Crossroads studio and offices.

First of all we want to express our deepest sympathies to the family of Dottie Rambo for this terrible loss.

Dottie was on her way to North Richland Hills, TX to appear in concert with her dear friends Lulu Roman and Naomi Sego at 10:30 am this morning . The Free Spirit Agency has been receiving calls indicating rumors that Lulu Roman, Naomi Sego and Terry Dorsey of the Free Spirit Agency were also on that bus. We want to let all those concerned know that they were not traveling together. Lulu Roman, Naomi Sego and Terry Dorsey were already in Texas awaiting the arrival of Miss Dottie.

We ask that you join with us in keeping Larry, Judy and their 2 children, Chris and Ronnie in your prayers as their injuries are very serious.

DOTTIE RAMBO DIES IN BUS ACCIDENT (story added May 11)

Gospel Music songwriter and artist Dottie Rambo has died as a result of injuries from a bus accident.  Ms. Rambo was 74 years old.  The accident happened in southwest Missouri and sent all of the other passengers on the bus to a local hospital with moderate to severe injuries.  Ms. Rambo was on her way to Texas for a performance. 

 

Rambo was a member of the popular group The Singing Rambos during the 1970's.  She was a regular on the Bill Gaither Homecoming Video Series.  Most recently she traveled as a soloist.  Dottie Rambo is also one of the most known songwriters in Gospel Music.  She has written over 2,500 songs and is responsible for such classics as "Too Much To Gain To Lose," "We Shall Behold Him," "I've Never Been This Homesick Before" and "Behold The Lamb."

THE ORIGINAL GOSPEL SOUNDS PLAN BENEFIT CONCERT (story added May 10)

Aileen Avery is a three-year-old child who has been stricken with cancer and is gravely ill. Her community has come together to create a benefit event intended to raise much needed funds for her care. The event will take place at New Life Christian Worship Center, located at 630 Highway 41A South in Providence, Kentucky, on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Bring a lawn chair and expect a blessing! If it is raining, the event will be held inside the church. Concessions will be available.


“The Original Gospel Sounds” will be appearing in concert beginning at 6:30 pm. Many local talents will also be featured. There is no admission, but a free-will offering will be accepted. All proceeds will go to the “Aileen Avery Benefit Fund”.


“The Original Gospel Sounds” is made up of some of the most talented artists touring today. Performing a mixture of older favorites as well as their own original material, the goal of the group is to give hope to Christians and non-Christians alike.

RELATIONS QUARTET CHANGES NAME (story added May 7)

The award winning, Texas based Relations Quartet have changed their name to "Paul's Journey." Group manager Rod Treme says " We are still the same group with the same sound, and the same mission. PIGEON FORGE WELCOMES SGM FANFAIR (story added May 7)

THE CALVARY HEIRS TO APPEAR IN RINGGOLD (story added May 7)

The Calvary Heirs Quartet is coming to Ringgold United Methodist Church in Ringgold, Ga. May 17.


The group continues in its 28th year of sharing the gospel from its home in Mt. Vernon, Ky.


“Our passion is southern gospel music,” said Bill Sowder, baritone singer. “Our purpose for singing is to spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”


From Renfro Valley All-Night Sings to being the featured group on the Star of Louisville River Boat Cruise, the quartet is among the favorites from Kentucky.


The group includes founding member Bill Eckler, Sr., who sings bass; Bill Eckler II, who sings lead; Bill Sowder, who sings baritone; Randy Smith, who sings tenor; Phil Malicote who plays bass guitar, coordinates music tracks, and sings background vocals; and Bonnie Eckler, who operates the soundboard.

CROSSROADS ANNOUNCES THE REVIVAL OF THE PINNACLE RECORD S LABEL (story added May 6)

FOURTH MEN QUARTET WINS TALENT SEARCH (story added May 5)

The Fourth Man Quartet of Orlando Florida won ‘First Place’ in the 4th Annual ‘SGM FanFair Talent Search’ in Chattanooga Tennessee on April 5, 2008! This was the group’s second ‘First Place’ finish this year having also won at the ‘South Georgia Gospel Sing-Out & Talent Search’ in Fitzgerald, Georgia an event hosted by Bill Bailey Concerts on January 20, 2008!


The ‘SGM FanFair’ began on Monday the 31st of March and ended on the day of the ‘Talent Search’. The event featured morning worship services, afternoon matinees, daily showcases, and evening concerts each day with two special events, the ‘SGM FanFair Fan Awards on Thursday night and the ‘Talent Search’ on Saturday afternoon.


Nearly 100 of Southern Gospel’s finest to include, The Nelons, The Dixie Melody Boys, Karen Peck and New River, The Dixie Echoes, and The Freemans performed during the evening concerts The Fourth Man Quartet was blessed to be able to share the stage with these great artists and perform as part of the Saturday evening concert.


The Fourth Man Quartet originally began less than two years ago as a small men’s ensemble at their local church, Calvary Assembly of Orlando. The four men of the quartet sensed God’s call into ministry outside the walls of their church. God is using The Fourth Man to reach out with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in jails, prisons, half-way houses, and churches in Central Florida and beyond. The varied styles in their repertoire appeal to mixed audiences.

JANET PASCHAL, SHERI EASTER AND CHARLOTTE RITCHIE TO RELEASE SINGLE (story added May 3)

May 2, 2008 (Nashville, TN)- Vine recording artist Janet Paschal has joined long time friends Sheri Easter and Charlotte Ritchie to release "I See A Crimson Stream" to Southern Gospel and Bluegrass radio. This will be the third single from the DOVE nominated recording, "Sounds Like Sunday." While Easter and Ritchie are not featured on the original release, Vine Records and Crossroads Entertainment and Marketing, Inc. will have the single available for digital download on iTunes and other popular websites. "I started singing this song on the Gaither tour this year. One night Bill asked Sheri and Charlotte to sing with me. We were taken aback by the response. We've been singing it ever since," states Paschal. "We've been getting so many requests for this song since Janet has started singing this on tour. It only seemed fitting that we go back in the studio and re-record. We'd never really considered this song as a single, but after hearing the blend of these three, we all agreed that it had to be edited for radio.
