This CD is a wonderful mix of Southern Gospel and Country Gospel music sure to please listeners of all ages. Featured songs are “I Know How To Fly”, “He's A Sure Thing” and “Help Is On The Way”.

“This CD has been in my heart for many years. I just needed faith to act on my passion. The song “I Know How To Fly” really speaks volumes as to where I am in my walk with God. I feel that the songwriters, Gina Vera & Sue C. Smith penned that especially for me, with divine inspiration of course. I wanted this CD to have a good mix of slow and fast tempo songs, and I feel that that was achieved.

“I hope the message listeners will hear on this CD is that God loves them and desires our trust. For me it was when I was willing to trust God with my dreams that I felt wonderful freedom to pursue them. You know fear can really stop you in your tracks, but with Gods help you can overcome and soar to higher heights. God is pleased when we act in faith and that opens the door for God to use you in a big way. It's never to late to pursue your passions and find your purpose.”

Hendersonville, Tenn. (April 28, 2008) - Daywind recording artist, Austins Bridge took home their first Dove Award for Bluegrass Recorded Song Of The Year, “He’s In Control,” at the 39th Annual Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards last Wednesday night. The show, held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, was broadcast live nationwide on the Gospel Music Channel television network and XM Satellite Radio.

The song, from their self-titled debut album, Austins Bridge, was co-written by group members Justin Rivers and Mike Kofahl, along with Daywind veteran songwriter, John Darin Rowsey. This is the first Dove for all three of the writers.

John Darin Rowsey was there to accept the award and he had this to say of his experience as a Dove recipient. “I cannot describe how shocked I was that our song was even nominated in a category with such incredible legends of Bluegrass music. When we won, I was truly at a loss for words. I thanked God while walking to the podium, and the rest was a blur. What a true honor and an amazing night.”

Austins Bridge burst on to the Christian music scene less than two years ago, and in that short amount of time, they have seen successes that some wait a lifetime to experience. They have appeared on major events nationwide including Winterfest, the Franklin Graham Crusade, Gaitherfest, and more.

GAITHER MUSIC GROUP ARTISTS CLAIM FOUR DOVE AWARDS (story added April 26)

Nashville, TN (4-25-08) – Three Gaither Music Group artists were among the big winners at the 39th Annual Dove Awards presentation Wednesday night at the Grand Ole Opry House . Ernie Haase and Signature Sound captured two awards, while Mark Lowry and the Isaacs each claimed one in the nationally-televised awards fest.

Ernie Haase and Signature Sound captured Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year and Southern Gospel Album of the Year for Get Away Jordan, produced by Lari Goss. Country Album of the Year went to the Isaacs for Big Sky, produced by award-winning producer Mark Bright (Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans). Mark Lowry took home the award for Inspirational Album of the Year for I Love To Tell The Story, A Hymns Collection, produced by Lowry and Paul Johnson.

Of their win, group founder Ernie Haase commented, “This group of guys has a lot of fun and we do this music because we love it. These two Dove Awards are like cherries on top of the sundae… we don’t have to have them, but they sure are sweet! We’ve worked hard to grow as people and as artists, and it’s nice to know our industry affirms what we are doing.”

The Isaacs matriarch, Lily Isaacs, expressed the family’s delight at their first country album win. “We were so thrilled and excited to win the Country Album of the Year because this was our first opportunity to stretch our wings further into the country music field, thanks to the support of Gaither Music Group and the help of Mark Bright, who is such an amazing producer in country music. We are proud of the album and we’re very humbled by the fact that our industry recognized the artistry Mark helped us create on this album. We were proud to be a part of it, let alone receive an award for it!”

Mark Lowry was equally thrilled. "Winning this particular Dove award was a great honor because it was an all-singing project. I've won a Dove for comedy but never for singing. So this is quite a treat. But the credit must go to Paul Johnson. He did such a great job arranging and leading the orchestra and co-producing I Love To Tell The Story... A Hymns collection. It couldn't have been made without him."

The Isaacs performed in the show’s finale with Charlie Daniels, Third Day’s Mac Powell and Angella Christie on “I’ll Fly Away,” which was part of a tribute to the Opry’s relationship with gospel music.

DIGNITY HOSPICE HOSTS SOUTHERN GOSPEL TALENT SEARCH (story added April 22)

LOGAN, WV – It's being called the hottest ticket in West Virginia for this weekend. It's a Southern Gospel music event that may seem similar to American Idol. The Coalfield Jamboree, a renovated MGM theatre located in the City of Logan, will be the site of the third annual Dignity Hospice Southern Gospel Music Talent Search.

Dignity Hospice, headquartered in Chapmanville, WV, will again host the annual gala and fundraiser that always attracts top-notch talent from across the nation. This year's show will feature a record 30 Gospel music contestants; the event is being held this Saturday, Apr. 26th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. According to Mike Collins, public relations coordinator for Dignity and emcee for the Saturday night event, the overall winner of the talent search will sign a Nashville Recording contract with the prestigious Eddie Crook Company at the end of the evening.

"Yet, I must say that it is our opinion that all the competitors are already winners," he said. "Each year we find ourselves amazed at the caliber of the talent and depth of commitment from these artists who participate in the talent show. Of course it is an exciting competition; but, perhaps most importantly, these artists are here for the right reasons: to sing God's praises and raise much-needed funding for patients of Dignity Hospice."

The decision of Dean Wilcox, senior vice president of the Eddie Crook Company, along with the audience’s participation, will decide the overall winner of the contest. The Eddie Crook Company, well-known in Gospel music circles, has launched the careers of many of the most popular Southern Gospel artists touring today. Wilcox, playing a role similar to that of Simon Cowell, will be on hand to gage and critique each performance. Judging criteria will including stage presence and vocal ability.

Collins stated that there will be soloists, trios, quartets and mixed groups performing live. "Not only will the audience be thoroughly blessed by an evening of exciting and inspiring music," he added, "but they will also know that they are making a direct, immediate difference in the lives of local hospice patients who most need medical care and our supportive services."

Collins said that because of the out-flowing of love and support from the community at events like this, no Dignity Hospice patient has ever been turned away due to a lack of money or health insurance.

Aracoma Drug, Steve Nichols Insurance, Woodland Press and Hurley Drug are corporate sponsors for this year's musical event. Call 304-831-4102, or visit www.DignityHospice.org, to find more information about the event. HOPPERS TO PERFORM IN SUMMERSVILLE (story added April 15)

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — It will be an exciting and inspiring musical weekend in Summersville. Canaan Records recording artists and longtime anchors of the Bill Gaither Homecoming videos and television programs, the Hoppers will appear in concert at the Fourth Annual Gospel Music Explosion, to be held at the Nazarene Campgrounds pavilion, this Friday evening, Sept. 18th, at 6:30 p.m.

As America's Favorite Family of Gospel Music celebrates their 50th anniversary in the Gospel music industry, the group has something special in mind for the Friday night appearance: The Hoppers’ Heritage Tour, a musical event that can only be presented in select locations, due to the complexity of the production.

“We’re excited anytime we can visit West Virginia, and singing in Summersville is always a treat," said Claude Hopper, manager of the family group.
The concert will be a full audio/visual program, where The Hoppers — Claude, Connie, Mike, Dean, and Kim Hopper — perform many of the sacred songs from their ministry beginnings, as well as their biggest hits, such as the current number one national hit, “I’m Just Waiting For My Ride.”

During the concert a mammoth multi-media screen will display scenes from a special collection of rare film and still photographs gathered from a half-century of Christ-centered ministry.

The Hoppers’ show will raise much-needed funds for the Nazarene Campground pavilion and will capitalize on the strengths of each of the group members. The result will include nearly every conceivable musical amalgamation in one night of powerful Christian entertainment and ministry, all for a great cause.

“After the concert, my family and I look forward to meeting and greeting friends who join us for the concert,” Dean Hopper added. “We'll also be signing copies of our new book, 'After All These Years,' and special copies of our new album, 'The Ride.'”
In conjunction with the Bill Gaither Homecoming Friends, as well as independently, the Hoppers have literally toured and sung around the world. Hopper fan favorites include such Southern Gospel classics as: “Shoutin’ Time,” "Milk and Honey," “Here I Am,” "I've Come Too Far," “Anchor To the Power of the Cross,” “Yes I Am,” and “Jerusalem.”

It’s been said that seeing the Hoppers live in concert will remind the listener just how encouraging and comforting it is to hear American Gospel music at its very best; and joining the Hoppers for a historic night of music will be international songwriter and Gospel music recording artist Squire Parsons.
Tickets are available at all Mountain State Nazarene churches, or by visiting www.paulspromotions.com. For additional information about the Fourth Annual Gospel Music Explosion or ticket availability, call 1-803-478-5889.

LARRY STEPHENSON BAND DEBUTS NEW PROJECT (story added April 9)

NASHVILLE, TN -Larry Stephenson's newest project, a sparkling collection of traditional bluegrass gospel songs titled Thankful on Pinecastle Records hits outlets today. You can listen to Larry as he debuts Thankful with legendary radio personality Eddie Stubbs on WSM Radio 650 AM tonight starting at 9 p.m Central. The album effortlessly weaves Larry's strong and identifiable bluegrass tenor vocals with a solid mix of songs that combine messages of devotion, thankfulness, contemplation and faith with the high lonesome sound that the band has become known for through the years.

Thankful is the LSB's fourth gospel album and marks a distinct shift forward in the band's musical journey. The album is full of handpicked songs that focus on an overall theme of gratefulness. "These songs came from everywhere," Larry says. "I co-wrote "Everyday Is Mother's Day" with Tom T. and Dixie Hall and also co-wrote "Open Up The Window (Let The Angels In)" with Jerry Salley," he adds. "Open Up The Window (Let The Angels In)" is a particularly moving song that was inspired after a visit to the Our Lady Of The Lake Cancer Center in Baton Rouge, LA. Several new writers including Tonya Lowman and Berry Clevenger have songs on the collection and The Louvin Brothers penned title track "Thankful" features the close harmony singing reminiscent of the Louvin's close brotherly connection.

The album spotlights guest appearances by acclaimed female vocalist Sonya Isaacs, the first female voice ever to be included on a Larry Stephenson recording. The album also features seven time IBMA Bass Player of the Year Missy Raines, as well as Dustin Benson (lead & harmony vocals, guitar), Shad Cobb (fiddle & harmony fiddle), Warren Goad (bass vocals), Aaron McDaris (lead & harmony vocals, banjo) and Ben Surratt (harmony vocals).

Larry will also appear with host Terry Herd on March 20th on Into the Blue, the largest bluegrass syndicated radio show in the country as well as a studio special with Kyle Cantrell on XM Satellite Radio's Bluegrass Junction on May 9th.

BILL AND GLORIA GAITHER HONORED BY STATE OF INDIANA (story added April 3)

INDIANAPOLIS (April 2, 2008) – Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels today honored gospel music singing and songwriting pioneers Bill and Gloria Gaither with the 2008 Sachem, the state’s highest honor.

The Sachem is given to an individual or individuals in recognition of a lifetime of excellence and moral virtue that has brought credit and honor to Indiana. Previous recipients include college basketball coaching legend John Wooden, the Reverend Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame and world statesman, and philanthropist Jane Blaffer Owen.

“It’s very rare people like Bill and Gloria Gaither who not only achieve great things but do so in a way we can admire and that remind us all to try to be better people, remind us that all conduct is not relative, that all conduct is not equally worthy of our respect and admiration,” said Daniels. “For a life of true excellence in achievement and performance and for lives led in ways that every Hoosier ought to want their children to imitate, we recognize them today.”

The ceremony included performances by Hoosier recording artist Sandi Patty and Larnelle Harris as well as comments on Hoosier character by Anderson University President Dr. James Edwards. Patty was a member of the Gaither tour in the past and a popular guest on Gaither Homecoming videos. Harris was a member of Gaither’s Grammy Award-winning, Gaither Vocal Band and also guests on Homecoming videos.

Bill and Gloria Gaither are most well-known for their significant contributions to the Christian music industry over the past four decades. Their early success in performing and songwriting has grown the Gaither Music Company into an Indiana business that comprises a record company, production studio, retail store and a variety of related entities. Despite careers that have taken them throughout the world with their ministry, the Gaithers have continued to call Indiana home, living and raising three children just miles from the farm where Bill grew up.

“Governor Daniels said we had chosen to stay in Indiana and take our advice from our fellow Hoosiers. That is really true, and I don't think there is any more trustworthy advice, or opinions, or influences than the influences and advice and opinions of those who know you best on your block,” said Gloria.

“Indiana is really a nurturing state, and I hope that will always be the case,” said Bill.

Born and raised near Alexandria, Bill Gaither began his music career while pursuing a degree in teaching at Anderson University. He was still a teenager when he formed the Bill Gaither Trio with his brother, Danny, and his sister, Mary Ann. After graduating from college in 1959, Bill worked as an English teacher at the local high school in Alexandria and married fellow Anderson alumna Gloria Sickal three years later. The Gaithers began writing songs together in the evening while Bill continued teaching as his primary job. Gloria later replaced Mary Ann in the Bill Gaither Trio, and in 1967, Bill left his teaching position so that they could pursue full time careers in the Christian music industry.

The Bill Gaither Trio went on to begin a new era in the gospel music industry, selling out arenas and earning the respect of audiences and industry peers for decades. Their timeless songs would win worldwide recognition, many of which are now considered classics, which have been recorded by countless artists over the years from Elvis Presley to Sandi Patty. In the 1980s, the Gaither Trio evolved into a four-part male group known as the Gaither Vocal Band, which forever raised the bar for gospel groups everywhere and remains the premiere four-part group in gospel music today.

At this date the Gaithers have collaborated on more than 700 popular gospel songs, winning eight Grammy Awards and more than two dozen Dove Awards from The Gospel Music Association (GMA). They have earned the title of the GMA’s “Songwriter of the Year” eight times. In 2000, Bill and Gloria were named “Songwriters of the Century” by ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors, Publishers).

In 1996, Bill and Gloria Gaither were the first musical artists to be inducted into the Christian Booksellers Association’s Hall of Honor, joining only three others who have previously been honored with this distinction: Reverend Billy Graham, Dr. Kenneth Taylor (author of The Living Bible) and Dr. Richard Halverson (former U.S. Senate Chaplain). The Indianapolis Star named “He Touched Me” among the top 10 songs of the 20th century written by a Hoosier.

The Gaithers have never lost touch with their alma mater. Bill has served on Anderson University’s board of trustees for 28 years. Gloria has taught songwriting classes at the university and served on the National Board of Directors for the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. They both received honorary doctorates— Bill an honorary doctor of music and Gloria an honorary doctor of humane letters.

Sachem (Say-chum) background:
In 1970, Governor Edgar D. Whitcomb introduced the “Confederacy of the Sachem,” a group of business, industry, publishing, banking and legal leaders, who served as state hosts, welcoming visitors to Indiana and promoting the state’s culture and economy. The organization’s name came from the Algonquin term applied to village leaders, implying wisdom, judgment and grace.

At the time, Sachems constituted an honor greater than being named a Sagamore of the Wabash. Bylaws outlined that Sachems were to nominate and recommend Sagamore appointments to the governor. The Sagamore of the Wabash dates to the term of Indiana Governor Ralph Gates in 1945 and has been the state’s highest honor bestowed by the governor.

Following Whitcomb’s term, the Sachem project was not pursued, and the organization dissolved in 1989. Whitcomb visited Daniels in 2005 to acquaint him with the concept and to give him custody of remaining Sachem funds. Governor Daniels recreated the Sachem to underscore the importance of moral example; achievement alone without exemplary virtue does not qualify a person for this recognition.

Each Sachem honoree receives a specially-designed sculpture that captures the Native American heritage of the Sachem. All Sachem recipients will be selected by Indiana’s governor.

JERRY TRAMMELL TO PERFORM IN GEORGIA (story added April 3)

Southern gospel tenor Jerry Trammell will bring his distinct sound to Sacred Sounds Fridays at the Ringgold Depot April 11 at Depot Street and U.S. 41 in Ringgold, Ga. Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in a special concert for the Share America Foundation, Inc. Soloists Bill Stobaugh, Shelia and Lindzy Reed will also appear. Randall Franks, “Officer Randy Goode” from TV’s “In the Heat of the Night” will emcee. Ticket donation is $5.

Trammell’s voice set the standard for many tenors that followed during his five-year run as one of the stars of “The Gospel Singing Jubilee” as one of the Florida Boys.

“Scars in the Hands of Jesus,” “Standing of the Solid Rock” “When I Stand in the Presence of the Lord” are three of the songs his talents help popularize.

Being part of one of the best known music shows in history early in his career afforded him wide exposure for his talents but he said there was always something going on behind the scenes to bring laughter to the set with so many talented young artists and guests performing on the show.

“We were getting ready to sing a very serious song and every one was wanting to play around,” he said. “It was our third and final day of taping. Everybody was wore out and we were getting ready to do ‘Scars in the Hand of Jesus.’”

He said Florida Boys leader Les Beasley had told everyone to be “real quiet.”

Dixie Echoes leader Dale Shelnut couldn’t let the serious moment go unbroken, he said.

“He took a big roll of duct tape and rolled it in front of us between us and grand stands where audience was. He said loudly ‘tape rolling.’ We snapped to like we were getting ready to sing and here was the tape rolling across the floor. The crowd just went nuts.”

He traveled with other mainstays such as The Blackwood Brothers (1983-88), J.D. Sumner and the Stamps (1988-1991), and The Blue Ridge Quartet, among others.

He has shared his solo ministry around the country for the last six years including his large catalog of music and his interesting testimony including his experiences overcoming alcohol addiction.

“My testimony any more means more to me than the music,” he said.

He said his purpose is simply leading people to Jesus.

“The music opens the door for me to be able to do that so it goes hand and glove,” he said.

For more information about his ministry, visit his Web site jerrytrammellministries.com.

The event is a fundraiser for the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship Fund. The Share America Foundation, Inc., a Georgia non-profit, presents scholarships to talented musicians who excel in the Appalachian musical arts.
