WOODY WRIGHT
AND STEPHEN HILL "WRAP UP" THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS TOUR (story added
December 27)
PRESS RELEASE - Dec. 28, 2007 - Alexandria, IN Woody
Wright and Stephen Hill concluded their fifth annual Spirit of Christmas Tour
in West Virginia on Dec. 20. This year the duo played to several packed houses
in seven states. "We were blown away with the crowds this year. The Rantoul,
Illinois concert and the Roanoke, Virginia show were the biggest ones, but we
had great attendance just about everywhere this year. With no promoter, record
label or booking agents to help, we feel extremely blessed to do well over a
dozen concerts each year. Our presentation is a little different, so I guess
that is what helps encourage folks to bring us back year after year."
The pair performed classic Christmas favorites as well as their original songs
that have been featured on the Gaither Homecoming Christmas videos through the
years. Stephen Hill wrote "Five Little Fingers" and "Look Who Just Checked In"
- which is also included on the latest Gold City release. Woody's "Come and
See What's Happening In The Barn" has become a Christmas favorite, and is
featured in many Christmas choral collections.
The talented singer/songwriters work together in other months as well, and
will play regular concerts this year in Indiana, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and
overseas in Holland this summer.

SOUTHERN
SOUNDS TO PERFORM AT RINGGOLD DEPOT (story added December 27)
The
Southern Sound Quartet will bring their smooth harmonies to Sacred Sounds
Fridays at the Ringgold Depot at Depot Street and U.S. 41 Friday, Jan. 11 at
7:30 p.m. in a special concert for the Share America Foundation, Inc. Randall
Franks, “Officer Randy Goode” from TV’s “In the Heat of the Night” will emcee.
Ticket donation is $5.
Southern Sound Quartet is from Nashville, Tenn., its lead singer Ben Harris
guides the talents of baritone Trevor Haley, tenor Mike Young, pianist Barry
Patrick, and Catoosa’s own Alan Brewster, who sings bass with the group.
“When we began in the fall of 1998, the original intent was to form a group
that would take the time to learn complicated arrangements holding tight to
the traditional quartet sounds of groups from the early golden years of
quartet music, like the Statesmen, Blackwoods and others from that time
period,” Harris said. “We began by rehearsing for about 6 months before we did
our first program in April of 1999.
Harris said the work is worth the effort and it shows when they approach
complicated song arrangements
It required an immense amount of work on everyone's part,” he said. But the
challenge was indeed what we needed. And slowly the pieces began to fall in
place.
“The group has never lost that original focus, even with the change in
personnel over the years,” he said. “In fact, Southern Sound Quartet as you
see and hear them today, in my opinion, is the best group we have ever had.”
The event is a fundraiser for the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship Fund. The
Share America Foundation, Inc., a Georgia non-profit, presents scholarships to
talented musicians who excel in the Appalachian musical arts.
“In this day and time, people seem so busy, that we forget to stop along the
way and help those in need,” he said. “There is a great heritage we have in
this region of the country, and we are honored to be of assistance in helping
the young people in the area explore their talents and cultivate that for the
good of the community as a whole, and for their own personal achievements in
life.”
The group travels from Michigan to Florida, Texas to Pennsylvania sharing a
music deeply rooted in traditional Southern Gospel, four-part close harmony
and in the testimony that Christ is Lord.
Brewster said he enjoys his time traveling with the group. He said he is
honored to share his talents with such an amazing group of dedicated Christian
men.
Harris is quick to praise the abilities of the singer.
“I truly believe he is the finest bass singer going today, but most of all, he
is one I would call on when I needed someone to help me pray,” he said. “When
we learned our original bass singer was needing to retire from the road, we
were very concerned on who would fill those shoes,” he said. “Our own
standards were set very high, as a result of the fine gentleman who had held
the bass position for us since our inception.
“When Alan first contacted us, interested in the position, we had already
interviewed and listened to more bass singers than I care to recall,” he said.
“I heard something very appealing in the sound of Alan's voice, and so we gave
him a call. Not only can Alan sing a great bass, but also we became very
impressed with the Christian man of Alan Brewster. God has a way of making
things work, even when we as mere mortals don't understand the direction he
intends for us every time.”
The quartet’s reputation for their polished heartfelt presentations have
garnered the opportunities to perform for the Southern Gospel Music
Association Hall Of Fame Inductance Ceremony, Gospel Music Television, Grand
Ole Gospel Reunion, and Southern Gospel Quartet Reunion.

GEORGE
BEVERLY SHEA RECORDS WITH ERNIE COUCH & REVIVAL (story added December 21)
EC&R
was recently honored to record with sacred music legend, George Beverly Shea.
Bev joined the group in recording the great classic hymn, "Haven of Rest," for
EC&R's new project entitled, "Pioneer Hymns." The project is schedule to
release in January, 2008, and will feature fifteen all-time-favorite hymns
from the 1800s.
"As we began working on this project we tried to think of which singer best
exemplified the great hymns of the church and our immediate and unanimous
conclusion was, George Beverly Shea" said group owner, Ernie Couch. Ernie
added,"We were delighted to have this unique opportunity, and I believe we are
only the third quartet, behind the legendary Statesmen and Blackwood Brothers,
to have recorded a song, for specific release, with Mr. Shea."
Jason Couch, manager for EC&R said, "George Beverly Shea at ninety-eight is
still ministering and sharing the gospel through song. His voice is as strong
and commanding as ever. I especially enjoyed listening to Mr. Shea share about
highlights of his lengthy music career. Most will remember his more than fifty
years affiliation with the Billy Graham organization, dating back to the
1940s. Through the years Bev has recorded over seventy albums, the majority
for RCA records. He introduced the world to "How Great Thou Art," and composed
the music to "I'd Rather Have Jesus," and I understand that he is listed in
the Guinness Book of World Records as being the individual who has
cumulatively sung in live performance to the most people, some 220 million!
What an incredible person, and yet, what a humble, and Godly man."
"It was an amazing time, one I will not soon forget," injected bass singer,
Matt Chaffin. "After the recording session was finished, we all went out to
eat. When it came time to say grace over the meal, Mr. Shea asked that we join
hands around the table, and then he sang the blessing. It was one of those
strangely wonderful moments that gives you chills. I want to encourage
everyone to be watching for this new hymns project. Pick-up a copy, and enjoy
listening to this icon of gospel music."

GLOVERS
EXPAND MINISTRY OUTSIDE OF CHURCH WALLS (story added December 19)
HOPKINSVILLE,
KY – The Glovers are excited to announce the expansion of their music
ministry.
In the coming year, the Glovers will be expanding their ministry to include
speaking engagements at not only men's, women's and couple's events, but
specifically to Pregnancy Crisis Center events across the country.
The Glover's offer a unique experience by tying their songs such as, "Hurtin
People," "Hidden Secrets," and "Saving My Life" (specifically about abortion)
in with their speaking engagements to lift individuals (especially in the
church) out of their darkness and into the healing hands of Jesus.
The Glovers have learned over the past couple of years how critical it is for
church congregations to receive the healing they need as individuals before
they can truly minister to those outside the church.
"This aspect of our ministry – helping people come out of their darkness into
the saving light of Jesus – has had such an amazing impact on us personally,"
mentioned Adam Glover. "Moving into this next area was a very obvious step for
us."
Most recently, the Glovers were invited as guest speakers for the LifeHouse
Pregancy Crisis Center at Murray State University in Kentucky for their annual
fund-raising banquet. From that experience, The Glovers will be the guest
speakers and music for the Westside New Beginnings Jail and Prison Ministry on
February 10, 2008.
Kathy Glover of the Glovers said, "God has just been using this area of our
ministry so much lately. We just have to stand back and let him do his thing.
We are so in awe of where he has taken our ministry over the last couple of
years. We can't wait to see where He takes it this next year."
Kathy Glover will be the guest speaker along with recording artist Sharron Kay
King at another women's conference entitled "Chatter Matters- Matters of the
Heart" at the Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on February 9,
2008.
For more information regarding The Glovers' ministry surrounding abortion and
God's hope to those affected by it – visit their site at
http://www.thegloversonline.com.
The Glovers recently wrapped up recording vocals for their upcoming national
release. The new album, titled One Good Reason, was recorded at UpFront
Studios in Nashville, Tennessee and features the engineering talents of Terry
Thompson.
One Good Reason will feature new songs by some of Southern Gospel's most
popular songwriters such as Chris Binion, Zane King, Del Way (who penned the
Glovers' breakout hit "Hurtin' People"), and Eric Horner. Also, Kathy Glover
co-wrote two songs for the project – "Hidden Secrets" (co-written with Chris
Binion) and "Saving My Life" (co-written with Zane King). Both of the songs
deal with Kathy's personal testimony and ministry surrounding abortion.
The group's new single will be hitting radio programmers' desk in the early
part of 2008. |

FIGHTING
CRIME AT TONY GORE'S SMOKEY MOUNTAIN BBQ AND GRILL (story added December
14)
Here's how their story goes per Jane, the restaurant
manager:
One of their server's went down the road and saw a lot of cops, and upon
return to work told everyone about all the cops being around one of the
hotels. Jane said,"We knew something big was going on!"
Just within minutes, a guy came into the restaurant drenched from head to toe
and seated himself. If these two things weren't strange enough, he seated
himself at the very back table then ordered a cheeseburger.
Call it sick sense, but Jane and none of the servers felt comfortable about
Him; so, they called the police and asked them if they were looking for
someone. Yep - with the description they gave the police this was the man that
a day earlier had broken an officers hand and that was considered dangerous!
They were informed not to serve him until they were told too, and lock the
back door.
So, upon serving the burger, here came the dog and the officers. It didn't end
there! The criminal bolted toward the back of the restaurant and Jane said,
"It took the dog and four officers to get him to the ground!"
Jane's next words are the most important. "If you really want to know how God
is watching over us? The detective that had been searching for this man all
weekend was setting in another part of the restaurant. He wasn't able to see
the criminal come in, but God knew we would need some added protection that
day."
So you may ask - Where was Tony Gore, or maybe Keith in all of this? It was
their day off! |

OK, where did you put it? I just knew we had lost everything."

from Guatemala. They will name the little girl Hannah Chloe Holleman.
Chloe as they will call her was born on July 17, 2007. While the couple still

they are expecting it will be sometime in late summer of 2008. April exclaims,
“We are hoping we will be able to get her by her first birthday! If not, we
will just plan to celebrate whenever she does get home with us.” Even though

decided to put legs on their faith by plunging into the mounds of paperwork
needed to complete the adoption and the task of raising the enormous amount of
expenses associated with adoption. “No one can even imagine all of the
paperwork involved in the adoption process. I feel like every time we get 10
papers completed they are asking for 5 more. Even though this has been a long
journey, we know she will be worth it.”
After The Holleman’s get Chloe home, they plan to set up a trust fund in honor
of Chloe to help other prospective parents with their adoption expenses. “We
know finances have been a major part of us waiting so long to adopt. There are
so many children that need loving families and a good home. We are excited
about being able to help others in making their dreams come true”, April

HEARTLAND
HARMONY WELCOMES NEW MEMBER (story added December 13)
SUMMERSVILLE,
W. Va.. – West Virginia’s Heartland Harmony is proud to announce the addition
of Garth Holcolm to the group. Garth joins the group as the new bass singer.
Holcolm hails from Summersville, West Virginia and is an active member of his
home church – Mountain State Baptist Church. Heartland Harmony is the first
group that Holcolm has been a part of. He has a fond appreciation for all
forms of music but was influenced mostly by Southern Gospel and bluegrass
Gospel music since he was a child.
Garth said, “I have been praying for years about finding a committed group to
sing with. It was as if God just threw these guys in my tracks!”
Jeff Board of Heartland Harmony said, “I have known Garth for almost a year
now, but until we had to find a replacement singer, I didn’t have the
slightest clue he could sing – much less sing a bass part for a Gospel
quartet.”
Holcolm is currently adding his vocals to the group’s new recording – due out
next year.
“Garth has done such a great job on this new recording even though this was
his first time in the studio,” mentioned Board. “He sounds like he has been
recording for years.”
Board continued, “We feel that God has led Garth to us. He has been such a
great addition to this group. We truly are glad and excited to have him.”
Heartland Harmony’s currently untitled new project is being produced by John
Darin Rowsey. The album will feature new songs from Rowsey as well as some new
recordings that various group members have had their hand in writing.
The group’s debut single from the album, “Feel Its Real”, was recently shipped
to Southern Gospel radio. The song was penned by group member Ben Simpkin.

MISTY
FREEMAN COMPLETES VOCALS ON NEW PROJECT (story added December 13)
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. – Singer/songwriter Misty Freeman recently wrapped up vocals for her
highly anticipated third solo outing.
Misty’s vocals were recorded at GoldenVine Studios in Hendersonville,
Tennessee. The album is being produced by Freeman and her father, Darrell
Freeman (The Freemans).
Titled What If I’m Right? – the new album features original songs penned
mostly by Freeman with Jerry Salley, Zane King, and Bluegrass favorite Kim
McLean. Ronny Hinson also contributed a song for the album. The album promises
to be more trademark Misty Freeman – a blend of inspirational, country, and
alt-folk.
In addition, What If I’m Right? will feature guest vocals from Jason Crabb on
“Rise to the Occasion.”
Misty said, “This is my third solo recording, and I had never done a duet. Who
better to sing with than Jason Crabb? It was a total blast in the studio with
him. Our voices are night and day and that’s what makes the duet so
interesting.”
The first single from What If I’m Right? is “Beautiful Mistakes” which was
written by Freeman and Zane King. The new song is now making an impact at
radio. The song is currently #4 on the Singing News New Releases for the
upcoming January 2008 edition of the chart.
“This song (‘Beautiful Mistakes’) is so encouraging to me personally. Zane and
I wrote it based on Romans 8:28 – ‘God works all things for the good of those
who love him.’”
“Another favorite song of mine is a song I co-wrote with the awesome Kim
McLean – ‘Cinderella’,” mentioned Misty. “It’s so different. I’ve been signing
it live and have been so happy that women and little girls alike are being
touched by the message.”
Misty continued, “I have put so much of my time and heart into this CD. I’m
really excited for everyone to hear it.”
What If I’m Right? will be available to purchase on Misty’s site around
Christmas and will be available at retail in mid-January.

DOTTIE RAMBO
AND LORETTA LYNN ON STAGE TOGETHER (story added December 13)
NASHVILLE, TENN. (December 11, 2007)--Two Kentucky girls
who became music royalty--Dottie Rambo and Loretta Lynn--performed together
for the first time at a recent Loretta Lynn concert at Renfro Valley,
Kentucky. The country music icon surprised her fans by introducing the queen
of gospel music, her friend of over 30 years, and the audience responded
immediately with a standing ovation.
Loretta told the audience that Dottie Rambo was the first gospel singer she
met when she came to Nashville and her first friend in gospel music. The two
music legends serenaded the crowd with “I’ll Fly Away,” and then Loretta asked
Dottie to sing “If That Isn’t Love.” Fans continued to yell out titles of
Dottie’s classic songs, and Loretta made a second request for Dottie to sing
“I Will Glory in the Cross.” After the two swapped stories and jokes, Loretta
asked Dottie to remain on stage and join her for the rest of her set. They
also had time to visit on Lynn’s bus, and they plan to write a song together
and record a duet.
Rambo ranks with the legendary Fanny Crosby as women who have had the greatest
impact in the field of gospel music. With more than 2,500 published songs,
hardly any modern hymnal fails to include one or more of Rambo’s songs. She
was recently inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. She is a
member of the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame and is a two-time
inductee into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame--once as a soloist and again as a
member of the Rambo trio. In 2001, Rambo received the ASCAP Foundation's
Lifetime Achievement Award. Along with Lynn, she is also a member of the
Kentucky Music Hall of Fame.

RESTING
PLACE MUSIC ANNOUNCES CHANGES FOR RAC (story added December 13)
Ricky Atkinson and Compassion announces the departure of
Scott and Tessa Thomas. After much prayer and many discussions, RAC has
decided to take a different path of ministry. Due to the great demand for
Ricky's solo dates and scheduling conflicts, we have all agreed it would be
better if we pursued our ministry goals separately. We will remain close
friends and very supportive of each other's ministries." Ricky Atkinson
states," I greatly appreciate Scott and Tessa and their willingness to help me
in transition in 2007, and working with me over the last 7 months. They are my
friends and I truly wish them well in the future."
Joining Ricky on stage, the new line-up for Ricky Atkinson and Compassion will
be Loren Harris (formerly of the Perrys and Wilburns) and Greg Cook (formerly
of Tony Gore and Majesty and the Florida Boys), two of Southern Gospel Music's
most individually talented singers, favorite personalities, and industry wide
well known voices.
Ricky Atkinson, owner/manager of RAC states, "I am SO excited to have these
two awesomely talented men join me for the RAC bookings... I don't need to go
into how great they are... Most everyone who knows anything about southern
gospel music, know these two guys are household names. They have their own
unique style and sound, and also come with a huge radio following and exciting
fan base."
Ricky adds, " I have numerous solo dates scheduled for 2008 and I am thankful
God allows me to minister in a more personal environment. With the recent
changes I have the opportunity to stage those major RAC dates with a
tremendously powerful lineup and I am certainly blessed with two of the very
best!" It is very important that RAC wants to be clear on the goals of this
group and each individual situation involving these guys.
They all have first obligation and priority in their home churches as
ministers of music, administrators, etc... so scheduling will be limited and
very carefully observed. Family and church first, then singing is the way we
feel it should be and thats the way we want it.
Booking will remain in house and can be scheduled by contacting the RAC office
phones found at the website or email @ www.rickyatkinson.com

GAITHER
HOMECOMING RECORDING RECEIVES GRAMMY NOMINATION (story added December 8)
Nashville, TN (12-07-07) – Bill and Gloria Gaither and
members of their Homecoming Family received a prestigious Grammy nomination
for one of their latest special projects, Amazing Grace. They were nominated
in the category of Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album, the
category in which they won a 1999 Grammy for Kennedy Center Homecoming. Bill
Gaither and his Gaither Vocal Band and Bill Gaither Trio have received four
additional Grammy Awards. Amazing Grace, taped earlier this year at the Grand
Ole Opry House in Nashville, features performances by Brenda Lee, Alabama’s
Randy Owen, The Isaacs, The Booth Brothers, and the Gaither Vocal Band, among
others.
Nominees for the 50th annual Grammy Awards were announced Thursday (Dec. 6) in
Hollywood. The winners will be revealed Sunday, Feb. 10, 2007, in a live
three-and-a-half hour broadcast on CBS-TV from the Staples Center in Los
Angeles.
“The Grammy voters have always been quick to recognize our work, and it never
ceases to be a thrill to be singled for awards that encompass every form of
recorded music,” reflected Bill Gaither. “More than two hundred artists were
in the Opry studio when we taped this project, as well as a full orchestra,
but the real star of this project was the songs—dozens of the most-performed
and well-loved hymns in creation. We are grateful to the Grammy voters for
appreciating their timeless beauty.”
The Gaither music hallmark has been receiving industry accolades since the
late ‘60s—including songs penned by Bill and/or Gloria Gaither, albums
recorded by the Bill Gaither Trio and the Gaither Vocal Band and long-form
Homecoming videos featuring Bill and Gloria Gaither and a large roster of
Homecoming artists. Bill and Gloria Gaither were named ASCAP’s Christian
Songwriters of the Century in 2000, the only award of its kind ever awarded by
the performing rights organization. During the 2005 Grammy Awards ceremony,
the couple was presented with the Recording Academy’s President’s Merit Award.

CAROL
CHANNING RECORDS SONG FOR DOTTIE RAMBO TRIBUTE ALBUM (story added December
8)
NASHVILLE, TENN. (December 6, 2007)—Tony Award-winning
Carol Channing, star of stage and screen, has recorded the song “One More
Valley” for an upcoming all-star tribute album featuring the songs of gospel
music legend Dottie Rambo. Scheduled for release in 2008 from the Daywind
Music Group, the album will feature performers from various music genres and
areas of entertainment singing classic songs from Rambo’s vast repertoire.
Channing recorded the song in her hometown of Modesto, California, earlier
this month with arranger John Wyatt.
“Singing ‘One More Valley’ written by Dottie Rambo is the classic reflection
of our lives and living,” said Channing. “I have the honor and privilege of
doing this tribute to her, and I hope to be asked to do a similar work
someday. Holiday greetings to all!”
“I can’t stop playing the song,” said an exhuberant Rambo. “I’m like a little
girl on Christmas morning, opening her first doll. What a thrill and an honor
to have Carol’s outstanding contribution to this project.”
Rambo’s manager, Larry Ferguson, who is executive producing the tribute album,
described Channing’s recording as “sort of a fusion Dixieland, traditional
gospel, and New Orleans music mixed with a lot of Carol Channing. I have
always loved her voice and her ability to tell a story with her trademark
vocal.”
Rambo ranks with the legendary Fanny Crosby as women who have had the greatest
impact in the field of gospel music. She began writing songs as an
eight-year-old sitting on a creek bank near her Morganfield, Kentucky home.
She left home to tour at age 12 and was “discovered” as a teenager by the
legendary Gov. Jimmie Davis of Louisiana, who signed her to a publishing deal.
Hardly any modern hymnal fails to include at least one of the more than 2,500
songs Rambo has written and published. Her songs have been recorded by a
“Who’s Who” of American music, including Whitney Houston (“I Go to the Rock”),
Jerry Lee Lewis (“He Looked Beyond My Faults and Saw My Needs,” “Too Much to
Gain to Lose”), Dolly Parton (“Stand By the River”) and Elvis Presley (“If
That Isn’t Love”). Rambo won a Grammy® award in 1968 for her album It’s the
Soul of Me. Rambo was recently inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of
Fame. She is a member of the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame
and is a two-time inductee into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame – once as a
soloist and again as a member of the Rambo trio. In 2001, Rambo received the
ASCAP Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She is also a member of the
Kentucky Music Hall of Fame.
Carol Channing made her Broadway debut in 1948 in Blitzstein’s No For An
Answer and came to international prominence with her performance as Lorelei
Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She won a Tony Award for her portrayal of
Dolly Levi in Jerry Herman’s Hello, Dolly! while the original cast album
knocked the Beatles off the charts when it was released in 1964. Channing’s
performance as Muzzy in the film Thoroughly Modern Millie earned her an Oscar
nomination and a Golden Globe Award. She has made multiple appearances in
television specials, variety series and movies, including Alice Through the
Looking Glass, where she portrayed the White Queen. Her unique voice is also
well-known to children, as she has voiced characters in The Addams Family,
Thumbelina and Space Ghost, among others, and recorded twenty albums reading
classic children’s stories, including Winnie the Pooh and Madeline. Channing
received the Lifetime Achievement Tony Award in 1995 and the Julie Harris
Lifetime Achievement Award from the Actors’ Fund of America in 2003. |
