CROSSROADS
SIGNS DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT WITH NEW DESIRE (story added January 31)
Arden, NC –
Crossroads music is proud to add the talented group New Desire to their roster
of distributed artists. The group’s new project Time In the Garden will
release in March. New Desire is a welcome group for Crossroads as their music
is a major part of their ministry but not all it has to offer. The group’s
female lead singer Dr. Brenda Robinson also runs a multi-media ministry that
includes 7 published books, a regular T.V. program as well as an international
women’s conference forum.
“When approached with this opportunity, the first thing we looked at was
Brenda’s outreach through her television show, which is now airing on several
networks including INSP and NRB”, said Chris White of Crossroads. I even
inquired with one of the main program directors at one of the networks as to
why they took her show. His reply was ‘because we think she is the real deal’.
That was enough to get our attention and see if we could complement her
television outreach, and book writing career, with the music of New Desire. We
hope that the two will work hand in hand with each other to their growing
audience”.
Despite Dr. Robinson’s accomplishments in both T.V. and print media she is
humbled by her opportunities that her and her family have with their music
ministry. She states, “After 18 years of being independent recording artists
we have always felt that if we ever worked with a company that our desire
would be to sign with Crossroads for several reasons; their relationship with
God, their credibility and longevity and the interest they take in their
artists. From our heart we can say that this is truly a divine appointment
from God and New Desire is honored to be a part of the Crossroads family.”
Joining Dr. Robinson is her husband Dan Robinson their son Labron Cason and
daughter-in-law Brooke Cason who together make up the group and the ministry
that is New Desire.
Look for the bible study program “A New Desire” every Monday morning at 7:30
am EST on INSP and Tuesdays at 10:30 am EST on NRB Direct T.V. Dr. Robinson
will also be holding her annual women’s conference February 1st and 2nd. Check
www.newdesire.org for more information
and be listening for the groups new single The Battle is Mine as it hits
national radio in March 2008. |

MARTY LYON
ESTABLISHES THE NEXT GENERATION (story added January 31)
(NASHVILLE,
TN) Multi-talented Country and Gospel music business veteran Marty Lyon has
established “Century 2 Entertainment: The Next Generation” - a new booking and
talent agency based in Nashville, TN. Lyon opened his new agency on January 1,
2008.
“I am really excited about the formation of this new company,” Lyon said. “My
goal is to help artists in Country music and Gospel music to go out and live
their dreams and perform their music. The world needs the positive energy and
excitement that these artists generate.”
Through his new agency, Lyon will book artists to entertain at concerts,
fairs, festivals, churches, special events and corporate events. “There is
always an audience somewhere who needs to be entertained,” Lyon said. “My job
is to connect that audience with the artists I am representing.”
In addition to providing major, established Country artists for the
entertainment-buying market, Lyon represents a roster of seasoned,
award-winning Gospel acts, including The Blackwood Quartet; The Blackwood
Singers; The Chuck Wagon Gang; The Dalton Gang; The Fox Brothers; Eventide;
Mark Carman; and The Pearly Gates.
Lyon, who is originally from Lexington, N.C., was raised on Gospel music from
his birth. His father, John Lyon, played with The Carolinians, who have the
reputation as the longest active quartet in North Carolina. As a young adult,
the younger Lyon played bass guitar with the group for ten years.
Shortly after his graduation from West Davidson Senior High School in Tyro,
N.C. Lyon started a sound company and recording studio called Tarheel Records.
In this business, he worked with many local and regional Southern Gospel acts.
In 1994, Lyon began working with The Fox Brothers, serving as a valuable
utility man with the award-winning group. For five years, he served as the Fox
Brothers’ road manager, front house engineer and featured musician, playing
trumpet during the group’s riveting Gospel medley.
“Through my time with The Carolinians and The Fox Brothers, I learned what it
means to work the road. I understand what Gospel artists go through to do
their ministry through their shows, because 1 have been there,” Lyon said. “I
feel this has prepared me to help the artists I am working with through my
agency.”
After working on the road with The Fox Brothers, Lyon worked for and learned
the booking and promotions aspects of the industry from the late Nashville
music industry legend, Cecil D. “Sonny” Simmons, at Century II Promotions and
Talent Agency, Inc. “Sonny taught me a lot about the music industry, and I
will always be grateful for what he taught me and for the influence he had on
my life.”

DON WATKINS
PASSES AWAY (story added January 27)
Donald
H. “Don” Watkins, 66, patriarch of the bluegrass music group The Watkins
Family of Eastanollee, Ga., died Saturday night, Jan. 26, following a heart
attack during a performance at True Gospel Community Church in Dobson, N.C.,
according to family members.
Watkins, a guitarist, and his wife Judy began performing in the late 1970s.
They led the award-nominated bluegrass family act that includes their son Todd
and daughters, Lorie and Shanon since 1982 touring across the United States
and Canada.
The family made a heralded appearance at the National Quartet Convention in
Louisville, Kentucky last September where Don proudly watched his daughter
Lorie perform with the legendary banjo stylist Earl Scruggs. The group’s
appearance was broadcast on the INSP, Inspirational Network.
The group broke new ground in 1988 becoming the first bluegrass gospel act to
perform on Capitol Hill in the Capitol Complex in Washington D.C. attended by
dignitaries from around the world.
Their successful appearance on Capital Hill even brought a request for the
group to appear in Communist China prior to improved relations between the
U.S. and China. “The request went all the way to the desk of then President
Ronald Reagan,” Don said in a recent interview. “The president advised against
it,” he said. “And so we didn’t make the trip.”
Watkins, whose family appeared on shows with legendary names of bluegrass such
as Bill Monroe, Jim and Jesse, Mac Wiseman, and gospel music stars including
The Speers, Gov. Jimmie Davis, and The Lewis Family, was best recognized for
his smooth ability as polished master of ceremonies.
The Watkins Family formerly received nominations as the best Contemporary and
Traditional Bluegrass Gospel group by the Society for the Preservation of
BlueGrass Music in America which hosts its annual awards this week in
Nashville and were also nominated as Best Bluegrass Act at the Coca-Cola Music
Awards previously hosted in Atlanta, Ga.
With numerous albums to his credit, his group’s biggest career song is “Power
of the Holy Ghost” which went top five in the bluegrass music charts.
Don also shined with his performances of “Roll Back the Stone” and “Letter in
Red” on the group’s latest album, “Darkness Wept” produced by Grammy nominees
Karen Peck Gooch, Mark Fain and engineered by Grammy winner Bil Vorndick.
No arrangements are yet set for the funeral services. |

REJOICE!
WORKING ON NEW HYMNS PROJECT (story added January 23)
Rejoice!
was in the studio recently at Crossroads in Arden, NC, as work is underway on
a new project to be titled, “Songs You Know By Heart”, produced by Jeff
Collins. Appropriately titled, these are the songs most of us have grown up
singing, and have held dear to our hearts for many years. There are classic
hymns such as “Wonderful Words of Life”, “Fairest Lord Jesus”, “Savior, Like a
Shepherd Lead Us”, and some great convention songs straight out of the old
red-back hymnal including “What a Happy Time”, “Jesus, Hold My Hand”, “How
Beautiful Heaven Must Be”, and many others that you probably “know by heart”.
Rejoice! has a new feature on this project that will be interesting, too!
Tyler Vestal, 16-year-old son of group member, Sherri Vestal, has been singing
and playing the piano with Rejoice! for a while now, and as the group’s
members will tell you, he has been stealing the show! Tyler is a phenomenal
pianist, and a great low-down bass singer, too, and you will not want to miss
hearing him play and sing on this new project. This CD of hymns and favorites
by Rejoice! will be one you will want to add to your collection and be
reminded of the sweet message of God’s love through these classic songs that
have touched our hearts down through the ages. A release date has not yet been
set, but it should be available sometime this summer. For more information on
Rejoice!, visit their website at

PRAYER
REQUEST FOR MARTY HARRIS (story added January 15)
(Goodlettsville,
TN) – The Eddie Crook Company has received the following statement from the
Called Out Quartet.
“It is with a very heavy heart that all of us at Called Out Quartet have to
report the departure of one of the founding members...a vocalist and piano
player from day one. Last week Marty Harris, our tenor, was informed by his
doctor that he had some anomalies on his vocal chords compounded by great
swelling. At this time we don't know what the anomalies are...either polyps or
nodules probably. Marty is currently undergoing a round of antibiotics to try
and reduce the infection and swelling so they can ascertain the actual base
issue. One thing we do know is that the doctor recommended he immediately stop
singing as well as reduce his talking time daily to approximately 30 minutes.
So basically it appears that Marty will be stepping down from his five year
post as a vocalist with Called Out Quartet.
Before we go much farther I will say that Called Out Quartet will go on. We
have no plans to cancel any of our events and further plan to continue
pursuing dates on into the future. Our immediate knee-jerk reaction as Marty
told us in person over the weekend was "well....I think we should just lay the
mics down"...but then we prayed and all agreed, the mission of Called Out
Quartet remains unchanged and our participation is as it always was, selected
by the Lord. Marty is still 100% behind the group and plans to stay on for a
while and help us with the transition. A short list of the duties Marty
performs behind the scenes includes web guy, keeper of the phone, navigator
and last but not least...the tech guy with the gear. So you see the loss of
Marty transcends that of losing a vocalist...we've lost a soldier for the
cause.
I know Marty would desire an interest in your prayers as he faces a bit of
unknown territory here pretty soon. As we know more on his condition, we'll
post it via our website at
www.calledoutquartet.com. Also pray for the group as we embark into
a new chapter of Called Out Quartet...the one with out our dear friend and
brother Marty. Pray also for us as we work diligently to fill Marty's shoes in
all spots where he touched the group, not the least of which are his Eddie
Crook Company 2007 Tenor of the Year vocals. Announcements in that vein will
be forthcoming.”
