RANDALL
FRANKS HONORED (story added July 31)
Rhea
County honors the Appalachian Ambassador of the Fiddle Randall Franks with a
special exhibit at the Rhea County Courthouse July 21. Franks’ exhibit
featuring his career in music, television and journalism joins that of the
late Grand Ole Opry fiddler Curly Fox in a section of the Scopes Trial Museum
honoring music performers from the county.
“The 20th annual Scopes Trial Festival featured famed performer Randall Franks
as one of its special guest musicians,” said Dr. Richard Cornelius, chairman
of the Rhea County Heritage and Scopes Trial Museum Committee. “Because of Mr.
Franks’ significant connections with Rhea County by his family heritage, by
being honored previously as Grand Marshal of the annual Strawberry Festival
Parade, and by encouraging Rhea County students to live a drug-free life by
promoting the Drugs Abuse Resistance Education program in all the area
schools, a special exhibit of his many and varied public accomplishments was
unveiled.”
Franks’ musical stylings have been heard in 150 countries and by more than 25
million Americans. His musical career boasts 14 album releases, 15 singles,
and over 200 recordings with various artists from various genres. The
award-winning fiddler’s best selling release, "Handshakes and Smiles" was a
top twenty Christian music seller. Many of his albums were among the top
30-bluegrass recordings of their release year. The Atlanta Country Music Hall
of Fame member shared a top country vocal collaboration with Grand Ole Opry
stars The Whites. In addition to his solo career, Franks is a former member of
Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys, Jim and Jesse's Virginia Boys and has performed
with Jeff and Sheri Easter, The Lewis Family, the Marksmen Quartet, “Doc”
Tommy Scott’s Last Real Old Time Medicine Show and Doodle and the Golden River
Grass. As an actor, he portrayed “Officer Randy Goode” on TV’s “In the Heat of
the Night” for five years and co-starred or starred in six films with his most
recent film for the Hallmark Hall of Fame.
Among those attending the event was TV pioneer "Doc" Tommy Scott, legendary
folk and bluegrass performer Tom Morgan and Tom Davis, Scopes Trial Festival
director, several descendants of the Harris family, and members of the public.
“If my mom and grandma were here, I don’t think they could ever imagine seeing
me quite this way at the courthouse,” Franks said with a tear in his voice at
the unveiling. “Dayton holds many wonderful childhood memories for me. It will
always be part of me and I am honored that Rhea County includes me as part of
its community.”
Although not a native of Rhea County, Franks, who resides in Catoosa County,
Ga., spent much of his childhood visiting his late grandmother Kitty Harris
Bruce at her retirement farm near Dayton, Tenn., which is now the site of
Grace Bible Church.
Kitty, the daughter of Phil and Rachel Moses Harris, was a native of Rhea
County who married William "Bill" Bruce and raised their family in Cumberland
County. She retired to Rhea to be near her siblings after Bill’s death. The
Harris family migrated to Rhea County in the late 1800s from Tellico Plains,
Tenn.
Franks continues to share stories of his youth at his grandparents’ two farms
in Cumberland and Rhea counties through his syndicated newspaper column
“Southern Style.” He honors the legacy of music and education instilled by his
late parents Pearl and Floyd Franks through a scholarship fund named in their
honor administered by the Share America Foundation, Inc., a Georgia
non-profit. The organization encourages youth who excel in the traditional
arts of Appalachian Music. |

farewell as the Crabb Family with Crabb Family Explosion, a three-night event
held in Cleveland, TN, last weekend.
“It was a great celebration in the ministry of the Crabb Family,” said Jason
of the Crabb Family Explosion. “It was bittersweet, exciting for what is to
come, and sad for what we’re leaving behind.”
With their final studio project, Letting Go, scheduled to release nationwide,

Sticking to their roots in Southern Gospel music with “Child Of The King,”

CROSSROADS
FINDS MANY SONGS AT TOP OF CHARTS (story added July 24)
Arden, NC – July 2007 has been a successful time for the
radio promotion staff of Crossroads Entertainment and Marketing. The month saw
songs released by the company reach # 1 on the leading charts of the Gospel
Music industry. The Dove Brothers were at the top on both the Singing News Top
80 and the Gospel Music News Top 100 chart with their beautiful ballad “I Can
Pray.” The single was the first radio release from the popular quartet’s Never
the Same project, shipped to stations in January ’07. “I Can Pray” quickly was
named the # 1 add by a majority of reporting stations the month it was
received.
Further enhancing this historic month, Crossroads also had the # 1 Bluegrass
Gospel song with Jerry Salley’s “John in the Jordan” on Bluegrass Now’s Gospel
Truth chart. Although Ernie Hass and Signature Sound had similar recent
success with the tune penned by Salley, Jerry recorded a bluegrass version of
the song for his new project New Songs, Old Friends on the Crossroads/Mountain
Home label.
The Crossroads radio team is led by veteran song promoter Jim Stover who
offers radio support to all of the company’s major artists. Jim is joined by
Ty Gilpin who promotes the Crossroads’ family of Independent Artists as well
as the company’s Bluegrass artists.
“We nearly went to the top of all the charts to whom we promote,” said Ty
Gilpin. “We had the # 2 song on the Bluegrass Unlimited National survey with
Lonesome River Band’s “Lonesome Won’t Get the Best of Me.” It just so happens
that Jerry Salley co-wrote that song also. We are blessed to have such
talented writers and performers on the label.”
“I agree with Ty,” added Jim Stover. “This company has one of the finest
rosters of talent ever assembled under one roof by a record label in any
genre. Much credit goes to the Good Lord and our management team for that.
What an honor it is to represent these God-gifted artists and songwriters!”

MITCH
KENITZER SIGNS WITH CROSSROADS (story added July 24)
Mitch
Kenitzer, lead singer with Three Bridges, has recently signed new contracts
with Crossroads Entertainment & Marketing and BSA Talent Agency. The
agreements are for long term recording and booking, as Mitch embarks on his
new solo career. His last dates with Three Bridges will be on August 4th at
the Mull’s Singing Convention, held at New Hope Baptist Church (formally The
Lee Greenwood Theatre) in Sevierville, Tn. and on August 5th in Double
Springs, Alabama.
Crossroads and BSA are also announcing a major change that as of August 6th,
2007, Mitch Kentizer will undergo a name change to Mitchel Jon. Mitch states,
“For as long as I can remember, pronouncing and spelling my last name,
Kenitzer, has been a problem for anyone outside of my home turf of North
Dakota. I know that I knocked Chris White and Beckie Simmons out of their
seats when I said I want to change my name. But with their support, we all
agreed to take the leap. Since my full name is Mitchel Jon Kenitzer, I decided
to just go by Mitchel Jon. In realizing the difficultly with correctly
spelling and pronouncing my last name, I wanted to make the change years ago
but, I was convinced by others to be who I am. Well, I’m still who I am
because Mitchel Jon is my given name. I simply decided that I didn’t want
promoters, pastors, music ministers and most of all fans, to be embarrassed
when they tried to pronounce, or should I say, mispronounce my name. You can’t
believe how many ways people have tried to pronounce “Kenitzer”. There are at
least a dozen ways to phrase it. So I figured, who could mess up Mitchel Jon!
I can assure everyone that it is just my way of trying to simplify things,
nothing more, nothing less. I also want to say that my time with Three Bridges
has been a fruitful one and a time that I am grateful to have experienced. I
believe that God works in all of our lives in seasons and my season with Three
Bridges has been an awesome window of time in my life. As for now, I simply
feel the need to walk a new path in hopes that people can experience me, not
only as an artist, but as a person and that most of all, I can experience
people. If that can happen, I feel like I have not only my talents to offer
but, that I can also minister to the lives of everyone I meet. Maybe someday I
will again be part of a group, but for now and for this season in my life, I
simply feel that this is my path to walk”.
Chris White of Crossroads Entertainment says, “With Mitch's talent, I’m sorry
that is Mitchel Jon, I don’t care what we call him. He is one of those rare
talents that come along just ever so often. I’ve been through the name change
thing a couple of times throughout the years and I’ll admit, it is a
challenge. However, knowing the difficulty that even I have had with his name
pronunciation, I can understand and certainly support this decision. I have no
doubt that we can overcome this small obstacle in a short matter of time. Now
that he has the opportunity, I believe that he will overcome any obstacles
with his desire to share not only his talent, but his heart, with people
everywhere”. Beckie Simmons of BSA World adds, “No one likes change but in
this case, I think it is justified and it will certainly make it easier on our
staff to more easily identify Mitchel to all of our buyers and fans alike. He
is an incredible talent and we certainly don’t want to hinder his, or our
ability, to present him and his ministry to all those who will be blessed to
hear and know him. So, we fully support this decision and will gladly work
through the process”.
Mitchel Jon can be booked through BSA at 615-595-7500. Sales and marketing can
be directed to Crossroads Entertainment & Marketing at 1-800-966-7664. |

KAREN PECK &
NEW RIVER TO HOST CONCERT (story added July 18)
Dahlonega, GA - If you build it, they will come. Those
words, which set the theme for the popular Kevin Costner movie Field of
Dreams, adequately convey the premise for the music park built six years ago
in the quiet town of Dahlonega, GA, by long-time Dahlonega residents Rickey
and Karen Gooch. Since completing the park, Southern Gospel Music lovers from
many parts of the United States have been loading their cars, trucks, vans,
RVs and motor homes to travel to Dahlonega for the Annual Christian Music
Nights. Hosted by popular Southern Gospel trio, Karen Peck & New River,
Christian Music Nights will take place July 27 and 28 at New River Music Park.
On Friday evening, July 27 Karen Peck & New River will be joined by their
special guests, Jeff & Sheri Easter and The Watkins Family. Saturday nights
concert on July 28 will also begin at 7:00pm, and will feature Karen Peck &
New River, The Primitive Quartet and the entire New River original band,
commemorating the talented trios 16th anniversary. Additionally, a mass choir,
comprised of choirs from area churches, will be featured both Friday and
Saturday evenings. In addition to lots of great music, the weekend will also
feature delicious home-cooked foods. New River Music Park features a covered
stage, camping area and picnic area. The Park is located approximately five
miles north of Dahlonega just off Hwy 19 in the Yahoola Valley on Gooch Road.
This exciting musical weekend promises enjoyment for the entire family, which
is exactly what the Gooches envisioned when they first built New River Park
and organized Christian Music Nights shortly after the Park was completed. We
built a stage that resembles an old church so we could create an atmosphere
where families could come and enjoy great Gospel music, food, fellowship and
worship, Karen Peck Gooch explains. Originally we anticipated reaching out to
our local community, but over the years the event has grown into much more.
Not only does the event attract Gospel music lovers from the Northwest Georgia
area, Gospel Music fans from many parts of the United States attend the event,
as well. The Gooches expect this years event to be the biggest ever, as the
event will attract Gospel music fans from all over the Eastern part of the
United States.

River, call 706-864-2082 or visit

ANN DOWNING
PLANNING CHRISTMAS PROJECT (story added July 13)
Nashville, TN (July 12, 2007) - Ann Downing is counting
down the days until Christmas -- or at least until October -- when she
releases her new "Yuletide" CD! Listeners looking for something fresh to add
to their holiday music collection will be drawn to this first-ever Christmas
CD by Downing, former Dove-Award winning Female Vocalist of the Year.
Ann, who recently completed her photo shoot for the project, calls it a
long-overdue labor of love. "The Christmas season is so meaningful to me, and
I've always wanted to do a CD of my very favorite carols. Once I found the
right collection of songs, and the right arrangements, it just seemed like the
perfect time to go into the studio," according to Ann.
Produced by Wayne Haun of Vine Records, "Yuletide" highlights the classic
vocal style of Downing by using four-part jazz arrangements of songs including
Rosemary Clooney's "Spirit of Christmas," and Ella Fitzgerald's "Sleigh Ride,"
as well as "Joy to the World," "Silent Night," and "It Came upon the Midnight
Clear."
"Yuletide" hits shelves on October 16, 2007, and will be distributed by
Crossroads Marketing and Distribution of Asheville, NC. |

“We are very pleased to welcome Harold back to The Chuck Wagon Gang,” stated
Dave Emery, general manager of the organization, from his office in Pigeon

diverse talents and are pleased to work with someone who literally knows The
Chuck Wagon Gang “inside and out.”
“It is a pleasure to re-join the Chuck Wagon Gang and to work with this great
group of talented people who take their work very seriously. I would have

let alone find myself returning some thirteen years later to serve in another
capacity,” stated Harold from his office in Nashville, TN. “I will remain in
Nashville, and while my duties are behind the scenes and do not involve
traveling and performing, I may hitch a ride on the bus occasionally. One of
the most important tasks before me will be overseeing and putting together a
historical documentary on the Chuck Wagon Gang’s rich history. Work is already
underway on this project. Hopefully, the Chuck Wagon Gang will 'keep on keepin'
on' for many years to come, and continue to be a consistent crowd pleaser in
Gospel Music.”

SUFFER TRAGEDY (story added July 5)
(Goodlettsville,
TN) - The Wisecarvers of Erwin, Tennessee were traveling back to their home
from South Carolina on Sunday July 1st at approximately 2:00am and heard a
loud pop and flames began to shoot from underneath their van. As they were
trying to get stopped and to the side of the road the family had to jump over
the flames to get out and could not get back to the van to retrieve their
belongings.

leaving nothing but metal. The group only carries liability insurance so they
have lost everything pertaining to their ministry.

JASON UPTON
RELEASES NEW PROJECT (story added July 5)
Charlotte, NC, 06-25-07 - If you have not yet ordered your
copy of the newest release from Singer/Songwriter Jason Upton, then you are
missing out on a true worship experience. The album, titled Beautiful People
is an intimate walk through worship with all of the members of the Jason Upton
band and the heart of Jason himself. Beautiful People is being distributed by
Integrity Music and has been in high demand since its release the end of May.
The project contains thirteen original songs, all written by Jason Upton, and
recorded and mixed in it’s entirety at Gat3 Productions in Charlotte, NC.
Glenn Tabor, engineered the project and worked intimately with the band in
order to capture the songs in a way that was just as organic and true as their
hearts. Jason has the heart of a pastor and his songs speak to people in a way
that challenges their thoughts and engages their souls.
This was the band’s first experience recording with Gat3, however, it did not
take long before a strong connection and understanding of Jason’s music
ministry was formed. Glenn was able to capture the intimate worship that took
place while in production. It was very important to record Jason in this
manner. Plans have already begun for the next recording. Jason is expected to
return to Gat3 to begin production on his next project late summer 2007. To
purchase Beautiful People or learn more about Jason Upton, visit
www.jasonupton.net. Visiting the
site will also allow you to view a behind the scenes video, the making of
