MARKSMEN INDUCTED INTO ATLANTA COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME (story added November 28)

Dr. Earle Wheeler and all the current Marksmen, Mark Wheeler, Darrin Chambers, Davey Waller and Mark Autry were on hand for the group’s induction into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame at the Northeast Atlanta Hilton Saturday, Nov. 24.

During the induction, organization president Johnny Carson reminisced about watching the gospel TV Shows that emanated from Atlanta as well as the Gospel Singing Jubilee where the Marksmen once made guest appearances. He recalled how they inspired him with their talents when seeing them in concert. Current members of the group reside in White, Dawson, Hall and Banks counties in Georgia.
“These boys can really sing!” he said.

Co-president Phyllis Cole highlighted the group's many milestones.

Earle Wheeler or Murrayville, Ga. is in the midst of marking the group’s 40th year on the road since forming it in 1967.

“I never dreamed all the places we could go and sing,” he shared. “We sang all over the country.

“I remember someone telling me when I was starting out ‘A bunch of singers from North Georgia will never be able to do anything,’” he said. “That’s not something you tell a Wheeler, its just makes us want to work harder. God has blessed us so much in these forty years. I am so grateful for the support of my wife Shirley.”

His son, Mark, a 30-year veteran of the group, followed thanking the organization for their recognition.

“I appreciate each one of the guys who travel with us and those that have come before them,” he said. “I am living the American dream — having fun traveling playing music, making a lot of people happy and at the same time sharing the message that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. I am so thankful to God for our family, all the friends that have supported us and each opportunity He shares with us to serve Him through this music.”

In the audience for the presentation were former Marksmen Quartet members Keith Chambers and Randall Franks.

Other gospel artists inducted this evening included The Klaudt Indian Family and Dottie Rambo.

BLUEGRASS DUO TO APPEAR ON BILL GAITHER VIDEO (story added November 28)

NASHVILLE, TENN. (November 27, 2007)—Rounder Records’ new bluegrass duo Dailey & Vincent will join an all-star lineup for the latest Gaither Homecoming DVD, to be filmed in Nashville this week and released in the fall of 2008. Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent will perform three songs from their self-titled Rounder debut—“By the Mark,” “Place on Calvary” and “More Than a Name on a Wall.” Their album is slated for a January 29 release.

Hosted by Bill Gaither, the DVD will feature performances by some of the brightest names in country, bluegrass and gospel music, including the Gaither Vocal Band, Vince Gill, Rhonda Vincent, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, The Isaacs, The Easters, Jimmy Fortune, Ralph Stanley and Marty Stuart, among others. The Homecoming DVD is a Gaither Television production, produced by Bill Gaither, Bill Carter and Barry Jennings.

“Gospel music is and always has been near and dear to our hearts,” said Dailey. “We’re very proud to be included in this incredible group of talent, and to be able to share these songs.”

The power and beauty of Dailey & Vincent’s duo singing is stunningly revealed in the David Rawlings/Gillian Welch gospel number “By the Mark.” The rousing “Place on Calvary,” written by Langdon Reid, features quartet style singing, and Dailey & Vincent will close their show with it as they take to the road in 2008. The moving “More Than a Name on a Wall,” written by Jimmy Fortune and John Rimel, was a hit for the Statler Brothers in 1989, and Dailey & Vincent feel a strong connection to its sentiments. They were honored to perform the song with Fortune earlier this month at the opening ceremony prior to the reading of all the names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, on the 25th anniversary of its dedication. They will once again join Fortune to perform the song for the Gaither DVD.

KEVIN SPENCER RELEASES REMEMBERING RUSTY GOODMAN (story added November 20)

Kevin Spencer releases CD / Full CD Soundtrack "Remembering Rusty" Vol.1, a collection of classics from the late, great Rusty Goodman. The project also includes a brand new song Kevin wrote as a tribute to his favorite singer of all time titled "Remembering Rusty." The song came at 5:30 in the morning after a dream Kevin had that Rusty came to their home. He awoke in tears realizing it was a dream and wrote the first three lines before getting up. Within minutes Kevin was inspired to finish the song at his kitchen table. As memories and emotions ran high he included fifteen of Rusty's song titles i.e. "when he met Jesus all he could offer was my Lord, 'Who Am I' " and "now we know why Rusty had 'Leavin' On His Mind.'" Rusty's daughter, Tanya Goodman Sykes, joins Kevin on two songs "Look For Me" and "I Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now." Kevin was very grateful Tanya came in to sing these two songs written by her father, reminiscing the days of recording with The Happy Goodman Family.

Kevin definitely feels God has touched him on this recording. His prayer is that all who hear it feel the same touch as he honors the one and only Rusty Goodman.

This special tribute project was produced by legendary producers Bobby All and Dirk Johnson, both of Nashville.

Songs include: Remembering Rusty / Leavin' On My Mind / Who Am I / Look For Me / Family Band / He Chose Me / You Make It Rain For Me / Lord, Paint My Mind / Headin' Home / I Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now.

YOUNG HARMONY ANNOUNCES CHANGES (story added November 12)

Chattanooga, TN – Gospel Music recording artist Young Harmony has announced big news for the ministry. Beginning in December of 2007, Johnathan will be preaching three day revivals (Thursday, Friday and Saturday). Young Harmony will be singing each night. Johnathan and Ginger will be at a church on Sunday morning, preaching and singing and then at another church on Sunday evening, preaching and singing. They will continue to operate under the name, 'Young Harmony', continuing to release music to radio, record new music, all the while focusing on the preaching side of what GOD has called Johnathan to do.

Johnathan and Ginger began traveling as Young Harmony in 1994. They knew in the beginning that God did not call them to be 'entertainers' but as Ministers of the Gospel through music. Johnathan and Ginger have been blessed to have many opportunities to spread the Good News in music, as well as preaching approximately four revivals a year.

Over the past few months, Johnathan and Ginger have been praying about the changes in the direction of the ministry they were feeling were about to take place. God began to reveal Himself through scriptures that He gave to Johnathan. Here are a few of the scriptures that God used:

Luke 4:18- The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.

II Timothy 4:2- Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3- For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4- And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5- But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

"I ask that you keep Young Harmony in your prayers as we make this transition," stated Johnathan. "Also, I ask that you keep in prayer, not only Ginger and I, but also Wesley Crowe (production manager) and Jonathan Maness (guitar player / vocalist) as GOD opens the doors that HE has for each of us to walk through. Thank you for believing in Young Harmony. Our desire is truly to be who HE has called us to be, along with vessels that HE can work through to change this world for HIM!" said Johnathan.

GORDON MOTE DEBUTS HIGH ON CHARTS (story added November 6)

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., November 6th, 2007—Acclaimed singer/musician and recording artist Gordon Mote’s new release, Don’t Let Me Miss the Glory (Spring Hill Music Group, RSI Music Group), debuted at #10 on last week’s Christian music Soundscan chart and also landed in the BILLBOARD Top 200 sales chart for its initial week on the shelves.

“We were thrilled to see this kind of response to Gordon,” stated Paul Sizelove, vice president of Spring Hill Music Group. “Gordon has been an industry icon for many years, and to see his talents begin to resonate in the homes of consumers everywhere as a solo artist is rewarding and exhilarating…it was an exciting first week.”

Adding to the excitement is the overwhelming early response at Gospel radio to Gordon’s single “Mercy Walked In.” Selected as one of the December 2007 Singing News Top 10 new releases and the number one pick hit by stations nationwide, the single is poised for a high radio debut and successful chart climb.

“‘Mercy Walked In’ paints an incredible picture...the style, delivery and message of this song is deliberate and very well-communicated,” stated Daniel Britt, of the Morning JoyRide radio program at The New Joy FM and host of “Daniel Britt & Friends” on XM Satellite Radio's enLighten34.

“A lot of people know Gordon Mote’s reputation as a musician, but they may not realize what a powerful vocalist he is,” described Glen Harlow, music director for WZAP Radio in Bristol, Va. “…It has been a while since a song has touched me and my audience like ‘Mercy Walked In.’ It is quickly becoming the most requested song at WZAP.”

Nominated for Musician of the Year at the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, Gordon’s music and personality have become an integral part of the “Nashville sound” of recording. In addition to his daily schedules that usually find him accompanying some of country and Gospel music’s most prestigious artists, Gordon performs worldwide in conjunction with the Gaither Homecoming Tour phenomenon in addition to his individual dates. The new release is being promoted aggressively at Gospel and country radio, with national retail positioning and through television in several million homes via numerous networks.

Gordon is scheduled to appear on this week’s CMA Awards broadcast where he will perform alongside longtime friend and award-winning artist Alison Krauss. Krauss made a special appearance on Gordon’s new release.

The first reader will be Hank Cramer, whose father, Harry Griffith Cramer, died in South Vietnam in 1957. When The Wall was first dedicated, the names listing began at 1959.
