DOVE BROTHERS QUARTET LEND VOCALS TO LIGHTHOUSE CHILDREN'S HOME'S RUN ON FOR JESUS PROJECT (story added September 26)

BLADENBORO, N.C. – The award-winning Dove Brothers Quartet recently lent their vocals to the Lighthouse Children's Home latest recording, Run On For Jesus.

Released independently, Run On For Jesus features vocals from the amazing young women at the Lighthouse Children's home with the Dove Brothers Quartet recording all background vocals for the recording. All the vocals for Run On For Jesus were recorded at Serenade Studios in Bladenboro, North Carolina.

The Lighthouse Children's Home was founded by Billy Hudson over thirty years ago in order to provide a home for girls between the ages of 12 and 17. The home is located in Tallahassee, Florida.

"I have been singing at the Lighthouse Children's Home for over 20 years," mentioned McCray Dove of the Dove Brothers Quartet. "He regularly promotes Gospel concerts in order to raise funds for the home. One day, I mentioned that the Dove Brothers should do a recording with the girls to help raise funds, and Billy agreed that that would be a great idea."

McCray continued, "So, I called up Mike Milligan at Serenade Studios to see what they could do for us. Mike said 'Yes!' before I could ever tell him why we wanted to do it. Well, the girls loved the Shout It Out project that we recorded at those studios. Since we already had the tracks completed, we decided to do the songs from that recording but to let the girls be the stars this time around. The Dove Brothers just recorded the background vocals for the album."

Eric Dove of the Dove Brothers said, "There is something special about this CD. You can feel the Lord all over it, from the first song to the last."

All proceeds from sales of the Run On For Jesus project will benefit the Lighthouse Children's Home. Information on ordering the project is available on the Lighthouse Children's Home's website: http://www.lighthousechildrenshome.com.

The Dove Brothers Quartet scored their first #1 hit earlier this year with "I Can Pray". The song has recently found a home outside of Southern Gospel radio as well. Pastors have wanted to use the song for sermon illustrations, special music, altar times, and much more.

In addition, many local National Day of Prayer services featured the song in their ceremonies. The song was also played on the steps of the Mississippi State Congress as well in support of the National Day of Prayer.

Be listening for "I'm Gonna Make It", the group's follow up single to "I Can Pray", at Southern Gospel radio all across the country. The song was the #1 New Release for the September 2007 Singing News Chart with 28 out-of-the-box adds. In addition – the song has already reached the #1 spot on the SoGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart and #2 on SGUSA Weekly Countdown.

ISAACS JOIN DOLLY PARTON ON NEW SINGLE (story added September 26)

Nashville, TN (9-25-07) – Sisters Sonya and Becky Isaacs of the acclaimed gospel/bluegrass group, The Isaacs, are spending lots of time in the studio these days providing backing vocals to projects by country music superstars. The latest to enlist the stellar voices of the sisters is Country Music Hall of Famer Dolly Parton, who asked her fellow East Tennesseans to lend their harmonies to the first single from her new album, Backwoods Barbie. The single, which is currently available for download at iTunes, “Better Get Back to Livin’,” goes for radio airplay October 1st. Dolly will debut the tune live on Wednesday’s “Dancing With The Stars.”

It seems the much-awarded songstress is a big fan of the entire family. "I love the Isaacs,” she contends. “Sonya and Becky always do a great job on anything they sing on. But I think their vocals on ‘Better Get To Livin'’ are outstanding. I just love 'em."

For Sonya and Becky, the feeling is mutual. “We have had the privilege of singing on Dolly's albums in the past and were so thrilled to get to join her again. Her passion for song and life comes through so purely on this incredible song. We love Miss Dolly, not only as a musical hero but also as a genuine friend.”

The three Isaacs siblings, Sonya, Becky and Ben, joined recent Country Music Hall of Fame inductees, Alabama, on their inspirational album earlier this year. The Isaacs’s current single, “Big Sky,” from their Gaither Music Group CD of the same title, is at #60 on the country charts.

STAMPS BAXTER SCHOOL OF MUSIC RECEIVES SPECIAL GIFT (story added September 24)

Attendance at Stamps-Baxter School of Music was one student larger this year due to the generosity of a 16 year old. Belinda Stutzman of The Stutzman Family worked her first summer job to be able to provide a full scholarship so someone else could attend the school. Belinda spent the summer working for a construction company driving fence posts, picking rock and running a transit to set road grades. It was hard work, but when asked why she did it she responded, "I love going to Stamps every year and I've learned so much over the last 4 years that I've attended. I was able to go each year because of the scholarship program, and I just wanted to give something back."

Ben Speer told the family, "I am so blown away that someone that young would do this." Mr. Speer shared the reason he started the scholarship program. He told the story of how Glen Payne's grandfather wrote a letter to V.O. Stamps and said he wanted to send his grandson to singing school but they just didn't have the money. V.O. said, "Just send him on." Mr. Speer and so many generous people have kept that spirit alive through scholarships.

"We'll never know the full impact that Stamps-Baxter School of Music has had on gospel music by providing quality music training," says Belinda's mom, Heather, and group member of The Stutzman Family. "I certainly know their scholarships have been invaluable to our family. We're so proud of Belinda for wanting to do this."

Belinda's scholarship went to Chad Riley a truck driver from Pennsylvania. He and his wife had planned on attending and for financial reasons they changed their plans. Riley's wife put in for a scholarship for him without telling him, and he found out just days before the school that he would be able to attend after all.

After meeting Chad, Belinda said her scholarship was put to great use and she looks forward to being able to do the same next year. If you or your church would like to see quality Southern Gospel music continue you can get information on providing your own scholarship at www.stampsbaxterschool.com or by reaching The Stutzman Family at www.thestutzmanfamily.com

POET VOICES EXPANDS (story added September 19)

The direction of Poet Voices has evolved into a church music focus integrating the group with choral music. Due to this, the unique talents of group member Mark Lanier are being under utilized. Poet Voices has decided to send forth Mark as a soloist doing what he does best. Mark will no longer be touring as a member of Poet Voices effective in January. Mark’s down-home country voice and approach to ministry will be the major focus of his recordings and touring. Melinda Hand, scheduling coordinator for Poet Voices, will support Mark in scheduling his solo venture. Mark says, “God (who wrote the book) has turned another page in my life and now I'm at a new chapter. Family is very important to me. This new chapter will allow me to spend more time with my two year old (John Mark), my eight year old (Jacob), and Paula my wife of 18 years while maximizing my calling to its fullest. The time with Poet Voices has been wonderful and unforgettable. The new addition to Poet Voices will help them to achieve their goal. I also excited to continue the relationship with Chris White and Crossroads and a new Crossroads solo project is already in the works and will be produced by Phil.”

Poet Voices has reached an agreement with soloist, Mitchel Jon, to fill the third part in their trio. Mitchel, formerly of Three Bridges, will primarily continue to tour as a solo artist recording for Sonlite Records and booked by The Beckie Simmons Agency. Mitchel says, “As I am embracing my new solo ministry I am so thankful for the support I have received from the fans, promoters, and DJ’s. You are so very special to me. I would also like to announce the overwhelming blessing I have been given with becoming part of the awesome ministry of Poet Voices! The invitation by Phil Cross and Greg Crowe is very humbling. Phil Cross is a true visionary; implementing positive new ideas for the way Gospel music can and should be represented. I believe God has His hand on all that is taking place at this moment.”

Phil Cross and Greg Crowe say, “We’re extremely excited to know our friend Mark Lanier is going to be able to concentrate on the type of singing and ministry he is perfectly gifted to do. We are thrilled to be able to continue to be involved with Mark. It’s such a blessing to be as excited for each other as we see our borders expanding. We are equally thrilled to add Mitchel to our team. His dreams and visions align perfectly with ours. Most of all his heart and unique talent is obvious to everyone who knows him. We’re excited on all levels.”

Beckie Simmons of BSA adds, “Mitchel Jon: What a talent and what a gift from God! We’re so happy that this door has opened for Mitchel Jon to expand his ministry. Not only will he be doing his own solo appearances, but will also be the third vocalist for Poet Voices. This has got to be the best of both worlds! We’re thankful to be a part of this team.”

RANDALL FRANKS PERFORMS AT NQC (story added September 19)

The sound of a lone Appalachian fiddle rang out from the main stage of the National Quartet Convention last week as the Appalachian Ambassador of the Fiddle Randall Franks kicked off the Instrumentalist Jam Session.

Franks’ rip-roaring rendition of his signature fiddle tune “Back Up and Push the Devil Away” got the hour and half concert at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky. off to a hand-clapping start as he doubled shuffled to the audience’s delight and the Dixie Echoe’s Randy Shelnut, Sr. set the ensemble’s rhythm behind him.

Comedian Tim Lovelace hosted the event with portions taped for inclusion on inspiration.net and INSP - The Inspiration Network featuring some of the top musicians in Southern gospel music.

“It was such a wonderful experience to work with Tim and all those who performed for this great event,” Franks said. “Tim has such a wonderful spirit about him and he sure knows how to entertain an audience.”

The duo even created a bit of unrehearsed comedic relief for the audience centered around Franks' role as "Officer Randy Goode" from TV's "In the Heat of the Night."

Franks also appeared on the program as a special guest with Georgia’s talented bluegrass gospel act The Watkins Family, Todd, Shanon and Lorie, who thrilled the audience with their talents on “Power in the Blood” and “Uncloudy Day.” Guitarist Jonathan Maness also added his flying fingers to their musical mix.

"The Watkins Family really wowed the audiences they performed for in Louisville," he said. "They are delivering some finest sounds that are now being heard in bluegrass gospel music today and it was a privilege to share the stage with them."

Among the other artists participating were Tim Lovelace’s 4-year-old daughter Gabrielle Rose, Randy Shelnut, Jr. and Stewart Varnado of the Dixie Echoes, Mike Riddle and Jeff Tolbert of the Primitive Quartet, as well as Jeff Easter, vocalist Christie Lynn, Randy Miller, Les Butler, Derwin Hinson, Zane King, and Kingdom Heirs band members.

The highlight of the event was a finale appearance featuring the legendary banjo stylist Earl Scruggs along with fiddler Lizzy Long. Scruggs and Long’s performance included “Sally Gooden,” “I’ll Fly Away” and an impromptu rendition of “The Beverly Hillbillies.” “It was a thrill of a life time to perform on stage with Earl Scruggs,” Franks said. “Had it not been for his and Lester Flatt’s acting appearances on ‘The Beverly Hillbillies’ and the Dillards’ on ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ as ‘The Darlings,’ I would have never dreamed as a Southern musician to reach for a career in television and film myself.”

DAN KEETON COMING OFF THE ROAD (story added September 19)

In July of 2004, after 24 years of singing with other music ministries, which include 8 years of traveling the U.S. with his family group, Dan Keeton was hired by the Dixie Melody Boys. After three years plus, with Ed O’Neal, Dan has graduated EOU (Ed O’Neal University) and is returning home to Ashland, Kentucky.

"I have been blessed beyond measure. As a young singer I always dreamed of singing with a group the caliber of The Dixie Melody Boys. Dreams do come true. It has been an honor to stand beside a man with the character of Ed O'Neal. I have gone places most only dream of. I have also had the privilege of singing with some of the greatest young singers Southern Gospel has to offer.

As a young boy I was told I would never become anything. I was told, that going thru child abuse, a foster home, and divorce of my parents would eventually send me to prison, I would become an alcoholic or a drug addict. But God had other plans. I was saved across the street from my grandmothers house in a tent meeting, I found my heroes in her box of Gospel music cassettes and I would later become the Tenor Singer for one of the most widely respected Gospel quartets of our time. God surely has his hand on my life."

Dan is forming Star Hill Productions (a multimedia studio and publishing company) in Rush, KY and is continuing his first love, sharing with everyone, his story: how God tranformed a terrorized little boy through Southern Gospel Music, into a highly successful American Tenor.

FOUR FOLD TO APPEAR AT RINGGOLD DEPOT (story added September 18)

Four Fold will bring their energetic dynamic performance to Sacred Sounds Fridays at the Ringgold Depot at Depot Street and U.S. 41 Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in a special concert for the Share America Foundation, Inc. Randall Franks, “Officer Randy Goode” from TV’s “In the Heat of the Night” will emcee. Ticket donation is $5.

The event is a fundraiser for the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship Fund. The Share America Foundation, Inc., a Georgia non-profit, presents scholarships to talented musicians who excel in the Appalachian musical arts.

Greg Powers, Eric Lipford, Aaron Watkins and Randy Patton make up the young quartet from Scotts Hill, Tenn. whose sounds herald back to the early Kingsmen, the Hemphills and Heaven Bound. Their new CD from Riversong Records is entitled “Miracles.”

Powers said helping youth who wish to keep the traditional sounds singing is important to him.  “There was five of my high school friends that started singing,” he said. “It was sort to be an inspiration, bond together and avoid peer pressure while doing the Lord’s work.” He said the teenagers traveled doing youth rallies and churches. Now more than 22 years since forming his group he is still serving the Lord. “It’s the calling upon my life,” he said. “It’s not for us its about Him. He didn’t give up on me. I’m not going to give up on him.”

Powers said they are set apart from many of the groups today that exclusively sing to soundtracks because they still play much of their music on keyboards, bass and guitar enhancing their performance with a mixture of live music and soundtracks.

There talents have garnered them chart songs such as “Shoutin’ Singing Happy,” and their most requested, according to Powers, “Firmly Committed.”  Fiddler John Rice and the Walnut Grove Band, and fiddler Deborah Taylor will also make special appearances.

Donations for tickets are adults: $5, Children 5 and under free with adult. NQC COMES TO AN END (story added September 18)

Louisville, KY - The 50th Annual Celebration of the National Quartet Convention concluded on Saturday evening, September 15, commemorating Gospel Musics largest annual event. Certainly no one who attended the prestigious event at Louisvilles Kentucky Fair & Expo Center during the week of September 10 could say there was a shortage of things to do. Gospel music lovers from across the nation, as well as several foreign countries began to arrive early on Monday morning (September 10) for the 50th Annual National Quartet Convention. In fact, many attended Sunday nights bonus concert to get a jump-start on the weeks festivities, while other fans lined up as early at 4:00am on Monday to upgrade their 2007 tickets and register for the 2008 event.

During NQC week, the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center was transformed into a Gospel music lovers paradise. Over 40,000 people attend the event annually, representing 40 states and a half dozen countries, including Norway, Ireland and Canada, making the NQC Christian musics largest marketplace and largest annual event. According to the Greater Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, the NQC generates more than an 11 million dollar economic impact for its host city of Louisville.

"The 50th Anniversary NQC will go down as one of the most special ever, stated NQC Executive Vice President, Clarke Beasley. The attendance on several nights was well ahead of last year and our new webcast service was a tremendous success; however, the most common phrase quoted to me throughout the entire week was the tremendous spirit of fellowship and love that was felt by all participants and attendees. It was palpable and evident to everyone there and is probably the biggest story of the week."

As the 2007 event concludes, thoughts immediately turn toward the 2008 event, which will take place September 8-13. Complete information regarding the 2008 National Quartet Convention, may be obtained online at www.natqc.com.

LOUISVILLE HONORS NQC (story added September 18)

Louisville, KY - A special VIP Reception was held as the National Quartet Convention kicked off its 50th Anniversary Celebration on Monday in Louisville. The Reception was attended by Southern Gospel Music industry leaders, the National Quartet Convention Board of Directors, as well as Louisville dignitaries, including Mayor Jerry Abramson and Harold Workman, President of the Kentucky State Fair Board. Mayor Abramson presented National Quartet Convention Board President Les Beasley with a special proclamation in honor of the Conventions 50-year history.

The National Quartet Convention, after residing in such cities as Memphis, Birmingham, Atlanta, and Nashville, moved to Louisville in 1993 and has enjoyed tremendous success, generating 10 million dollars in economic impact for its host city. Approximately 40,000 people attend the event throughout the week, representing 40 states and a half dozen countries, including Canada and New Zealand, making it Christian musics largest marketplace and largest annual week-long event.

Tickets are still available for evening concerts, as well as afternoon showcases and may be purchased at any Ticketmaster location, online at www.natqc.com or at the door. Musical showcases are held each day beginning at 9:30am in the Expo Centers South Wing and in Freedom Hall nightly at 6:00pm.

EARL SCRUGGS TO PERFORM AT NQC (story added September 18)

Louisville, KY - A special highlight of the National Quartet Convention has become the Bluegrass Pickin Jamboree. This event is one of the numerous musical showcases held each afternoon during NQC Week, which is currently underway at the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center in Louisville through Saturday night. Organizers of the event, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, have announced that multi-Grammy Award winning recording artist, Earl Scruggs will be a part of this years Bluegrass Jamboree.

Scruggs is a revolutionary banjo player and one of the most well-known artists in the history of country music. He has received four Grammy Awards, a National Medal of the Arts, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, among other distinctions. He is an inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Honor. Scruggs began his career in 1945 with Bill Monroe. While a member of Monroe's Blue Grass Boys, he met singer/guitarist Lester Flatt, with whom he would start Flatt & Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys in 1948. The group became the most prominent band in bluegrass history and made popular this sound to millions of listeners with their theme to the enduring TV series The Beverly Hillbillies, "The Ballad of Jed Clampett." Scruggs also wrote and recorded the instrumental "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" that was used throughout the movie Bonnie and Clyde.

Most recently, the 83-year-old musical pioneer released a trio recording with Little Roy Lewis, long-time member of the famed Lewis Family and talented newcomer Lizzy Long. The project, entitled Lifetimes, features bluegrass and Gospel songs and was released on the Vine/Crossroads label in April and has already spawned two Number One releases on bluegrass radio. Scruggs received his latest honor earlier this week when he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on Monday.

In addition to Scruggs, the NQC Bluegrass Pickin Jamboree will also feature Lizzy Long, as well as noted female vocalist Janet Paschal, The Primitive Quartet, in addition to many other bluegrass Gospel favorites and will be hosted by Les Butler and Tim Surrett. The event will take place in the South Wing Conference Center at the Expo Center tomorrow (Thursday) at 12:00noon.

Tickets are still available for evening concerts, as well as afternoon showcases and may be purchased at the any Ticketmaster location, online at www.natqc.com or at the door. Musical showcases are held each day beginning at 9:30am in the Expo Centers South Wing and in Freedom Hall nightly at 6:00pm.

SINGING NEWS RELEASES BOOK (story added September 12)

LOUISVILLE, KY - It's official. The brand new book, The History Of The Singing News Magazine, has been nationally released and is now available at The Singing News booth at the National Quartet Convention (NQC), at Freedom Hall, at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center. If the NQC visitor's reactions are any indication of the quality of the product, the book could very well be a runaway best seller in the Southern Gospel music genre.

The softcover volume is a collaborative effort between Woodland Gospel Publishing and Xulon Press (a Salem Communications Company), and is authored by Mike Collins, of Logan, WV, who was also the writer of the bestselling Gospel music literary title, Hold On: The Authorized Biography Of The Greenes, and co-writer of Driving Ms. Dottie: On the Road With Gospel Music Legend Dottie Rambo.

"This account is an amazing and inspiring story of how good fellows like J.G. Whitfield and Jerry Kirksey followed the Lord's leading and formed a unique publication that eventually evolved into the true voice of Southern Gospel music,"said Woodland Gospel publisher Keith Davis. "The author, Mike Collins, also takes the reader on a touching literary journey that faithfully documents the various challenges and victories the magazine and its people have experienced over the years.

"The story of The Printed Voice Of Southern Gospel Music closely parallels the continued growth and success of Southern Gospel music itself. It's as if the two are inseparable -- as it should be," he added.

Jim Cumbee, publisher of The Singing News, also stated that the magazine will soon advertise the book in their publication, as well. "Every reader and member of their subscriber family should read this story," said author Mike Collins. "It is interesting to see the behind-the-scenes passion and commitment related to this national magazine."

Besides being available at the NQC, the book can be found at www.xulonpress.com, and will soon be available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other national online bookstores.

50 YEAR ANNIVERSARIES CELEBRATED IN KENTUCKY (story added September 12)

LOUISVILLE, KY - A golden anniversary is one of the most celebrated of commemoratives. This year is especially noteworthy, since it’s time to toast two national Gospel music legacies that are celebrating their 50th during the same week: the National Quartet Convention (NQC) and the Hoppers.

2007 marks the 50th year of operation for the NQC. The annual attraction is currently in progress, through Sat., Sept. 15th, at Freedom Hall, at the Kentucky Exposition Center, in Louisville.

Likewise, the legendary Hoppers, America’s Favorite Family Of Gospel Music, have also reached this important benchmark and are celebrating their 50th throughout the week, as well.

Thousands are expected to attend the NQC, often described as the “granddaddy of them all,” to celebrate this important anniversary of both musical heritages.

The first National Quartet Convention was held in 1957, in Memphis, Tennessee. After several changes in ownership and location, it has been headquartered in Louisville since 1993.

This year’s installment of the NQC also marks the 50th year of the legendary Hoppers, perhaps Gospel music’s most enduring and innovative family Gospel music group.

Since the original Hopper brothers began in 1957 and were soon joined by Connie (who later became the wife of group founder Claude Hopper), the group has been through several successful transitions. Today, the popular Canaan Recording artists, who also appear regularly with the Bill Gaither Homecoming Friends, are at the top of their game. Currently, the Hoppers are made up of Claude and Connie and their two sons, Mike and Dean, and Dean’s wife, Kim Greene Hopper.

In a special afternoon showcase on Saturday, at 2:15 p.m., time will seem to roll backwards – a half-century — as the original Hopper Brothers and Connie will again take the Gospel music stage at NQC. The original Hopper Brothers and Connie, along with the current configuration, will present their own epic 50th celebration for friends and fans, a once-in-a-lifetime golden anniversary gala for NQC.

“This is a special moment for our family, and it’s especially thrilling since it is also the NQC anniversary,” said Claude Hopper. “My brothers are all energized and ready for the celebration. They have never sounded better together, and Connie and I can’t wait to join them on stage.”
Claude added, “It’s our goal that Christians from all walks of life will enjoy this incredible Gospel music experience at NQC. Most of the great artists of Southern Gospel music are here together! And we look forward to meeting the public face-to-face at our booth.”

NQC TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS (story added September 9)

Louisville, KY - The year was 1957. Dwight D. Eisenhower was President of the United States. Milwaukee defeated the New York Yankees to win the World Series. The European Common Market was created. West Side Story debuted on Broadway. Leave It To Beaver premiered on CBS television and the National Quartet Convention was launched in Memphis, TN, by its founder, JD Sumner.

Co-produced by Gospel Music legend James Blackwood, that very first Convention, which has since grown to encompasses a variety of Southern Gospel recording artists, featured only quartets. Headlined by such names as The Statesmen, The Florida Boys, The Blackwood Brothers and The Stamps, this event marked a monumental occasion for Southern Gospel Music. That first National Quartet Convention proved to be quite successful; however, no one, not even JG Whitfield himself could have imagined what the event would become throughout the next four and a half decades.

In 1958 the NQC moved to Birmingham and the following year Atlanta; however, by 1960 the event returned to its inaugural city of Memphis and remained there for the next 12 years. During that time many transitions occurred in the Convention, as well as the entire Southern Gospel Music industry. Yet even amidst, or maybe as a result of the changes, the NQC experienced phenomenal growth.

In 1972 Music City, USA, Nashville, TN, opened its doors and welcomed Southern Gospel Musics grandest event, becoming the host city for the NQC.Throughout the next two decades the National Quartet Convention remained in Nashville and continued to grow by leaps and bounds. Thousands of Southern Gospel Music fans planned their annual vacations each fall around the National Quartet Convention. Thus the weekend event soon grew to a full week and even for a brief period extended to 10 days.

By 1988, the NQC had experienced its first sold out event since moving to Nashville and the citys historic Municipal Auditorium. Substantial growth continued in Nashville, as the event grew to include a variety of activities from Riverboat Cruises to Morning Chapel Services to Talent Competitions.

Believing that in order to continue to grow, a larger venue was necessary; therefore, in the fall of 1993, the NQC Board of Directors made the decision to move from its 22-year home of Nashville approximately 150 miles north up Interstate 65 to the city of Louisville, KY. This decision proved to be a prosperous one, as Louisville welcomed the National Quartet Convention with open arms. This support has proven to be essential to the success the NQC has experienced over the past eight years. In fact, during the very first year at Louisvilles Kentucky Fair & Expo Center in 1994, evening concert attendance doubled, and the exposition/exhibit area increased by four times.

Two years later, in 1996, the NQC enjoyed its first sold-out evening concert in Louisvilles Freedom Hall. The week-long event has become so much more than any typical Southern Gospel concert event. In fact, its been affectionately labeled as the granddaddy of all Southern Gospel concerts.

To say that the National Quartet Convention has experienced abounding growth and success would be a major understatement. However, throughout the years many challenges and growing pains have been experienced and endured. God has continued to pour His blessings upon an event that continually uplifts His name through His music.

The National Quartet Convention will officially celebrate its 50th Anniversary this year, as the 2007 event officially begins September 10 and continues through September 15. This half-century musical tradition continues with over 40,000 Southern Gospel Music fans, representing 40 states and at least a half dozen foreign countries converging on the city of Louisville. While the event officially kicks off on Monday, the NQC will host a Sunday Night Bonus Concert in the South Wing Conference Center at the KFEC on Sunday, September 10. This exciting concert will feature two popular groups, Legacy Five and The Booth Brothers.

In addition to these two talented recording artists, nearly 70 of the most popular names in Southern Gospel Music will be featured throughout the event, including artists like The Florida Boys, The Hoppers, The Kingdom Heirs, Gold City, Greater Vision, The McKameys, Legacy Five, The Pfeifers, The Dixie Melody Boys, The Dove Brothers Quartet and many, many others. There will also be afternoon musical extravaganzas and daily bible and chapel services. Another special highlight of the week is the Annual Singing News Fan Awards Ceremony, which takes place on Thursday evening.

The National Quartet Convention is a must for every Southern Gospel Music fan. Complete information about the 2007 National Quartet Convention may be obtained by calling 1-800-846-8499 or online at www.natqc.com.

Louisville, KY - During the week of the 50th Annual National Quartet Convention, scheduled to take place September 10 - 15 in the city of Louisville, KY, at the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center, the BBC will begin filming a special documentary about the unique story of Southern Gospel Music. The documentary will include special interview segments with many of the musical format’s pioneers and promising young artists, as well.

The documentary, with the working title of Gloryland, will be broadcast on the UK channel BBC Four later this year. It is being produced by Sebastian Barfield, a BBC producer, whose distinguished track record for producing music documentaries speaks for itself, as Barfield has produced the Emmy nominated Soul Deep: The Story of Black Popular Music and the forthcoming Seven Ages of Rock, which will be broadcast on VH1 Classic in December.

“A form of music that is often ignored by the mainstream media, Southern Gospel has a long history as rich as other more celebrated genres,” Barfield states. “This program we are producing will look at the music's history, filming at the 50th Annual National Quartet Convention in Louisville, as well as the 104th United Sacred Harp Convention in Alabama.” According to Barfield, the documentary will explore the impact Southern Gospel has made on many varying musical forms and will look at the related music of bluegrass music legend, Doyle Lawson, and the Gospel work of The Louvin Brothers and Elvis Presley.

The BBC is a unique institution, owned by the British people and independent of political and commercial interests. The BBC's purpose - largely unchanged in 80 years - is to enrich the life of every person in the United Kingdom with programs that inform, educate and entertain. The BBC is a major force in UK society, contributing through its programs and services to the quality of life in society as a whole.

MADISON, NC - The official Hopper website has a fresh, new, and more colorful look, just in time for the autumn season. America's Favorite Family Of Gospel Music now has a powerful and polished Internet presence that is easier to navigate, intuitive and more enjoyable for those who visit. There are also concert video clips, home videos, special photos and occasional music samples. The site menu includes a biography section that features each of the group members Claude, Connie, Dean, Kim and Mike Hopper as well as an overview of the group. Readers will also appreciate Connie's Corner, which features inspiring and encouraging messages written by Connie. There are also menu topics such as Happenings, where fans keep up-to-date with the family while they're on the road or on the family farm. Other interests include the current tour schedule, the online store, various media helps, and other options such as a menu choice dedicated to The Farm, Dean and Mike Hoppers' state-of-the-art recording studio, located several miles from the Hoppers' Madison headquarters.

"It's exciting to be on the internet in such a big way. It represents one more way to communicate with our Southern Gospel music fans," Claude said. "It's amazing where technology is taking us nowadays. We are being given new and exciting opportunities to tell the life-changing Gospel message of Christ to a hurting and dying world."

This is an especially opportune time to re-design and freshen-up the website, being that it's just prior to the National Quartet Convention (NQC). And during NQC, the Hoppers will also announce the release of two brand new live videos. The two projects, "The Ride" and "Celebration 50" include new songs and a powerful concert, as recorded live at Winston-Salem, NC. Both videos have been recorded in high-quality high-definition. Additionally, there is a very special segment with the Original Hopper Brothers and Connie in concert. A video-clip from the concert can currently be seen at the website, as well.

BROTHERS FOREVER WELCOMES PERRY JONES AS NEW TENOR (story added September 3)

CHURCH HILL, Tenn. – Brothers Forever is pleased to announce the addition of Perry Jones as the group’s new tenor.

Perry Jones resides in Marion, North Carolina with his wife, Daphne. Perry has been singing since he was a child and has been traveling and ministering since the age of 18. Perry has traveled with 3 for 1, Safe Harbor, and the Blackwoods before joining Brothers Forever. In addition, Jones has shared the stage with contemporary Christian artists like Audio Adrenaline, MercyMe, and Sonicflood.

Curtis Hagy of Brothers Forever said, "We had been auditioning and trying out people for over 4 months and God just wouldn't let us settle on any of them. When we stopped looking for someone then God sent us Perry. While we were in CA doing our west coast tour I had a dream on Thursday night July 26. In my dream God sent an angel that told me "I am sending you a blessing in 11 days. Of course my first thought was a financial blessing. I just thought ok Lord that is cool. Well on Monday July 30th I got a phone from Perry. He asked about the position and I told him it was still open. I explained that we would be back from CA on Thursday Aug 2 and that I would like to set up a time for him to come on Tuesday Aug 7th. Well Aug 7th didn't work out for me because I forgot that my oldest daughter had kindergarten orientation. So my wife suggested Monday Aug 6th. We settled that date and we hung up the phone. About fifteen minutes later the Lord spoke to me while driving through the Mojave Desert and reminded me of my dream. I stared counting the days from July 26 to Aug the 6th "the date Perry wasn't coming to try out" and guess what??? That adds up to 11days!!! LOL Isn't God just good!!! Perry showed up on Monday and after talking with him about the Lord and then hearing him sing we knew that God had sent him."

“I'm so excited about joining this group that has a firm foundation in ministry,” mentioned Perry. “They have welcomed me and my family with open arms. It has been an awesome first month, and we have already seen eight people saved. I can't wait to finish this new album that we are working on too! God has sent this group some great songs that are really touching a lot of people. “

Perry is currently laying down vocals for the group’s newest release, which is due out later this year. The rest of the group was recently in the studio recording vocals for the album. The men were in GAT3 Studios completing vocals with producer Brad Hudson (Greenes) and engineer Glen Tabor.
