If you ever want to be sure to get your project reviewed on this website, just record a bunch of classic songs … and record them well!  Of course, I am kidding, we are happy to review any good Southern Gospel Music on our website however I have always had a special place in my heart for the old, classic songs and Ricky Atkinson and Compassion just released a brand new project with ten classic Southern Gospel songs on it.  Appropriately titled “Favorites Volume 1,” this project has some exceptional performances on some exceptional songs.

The project starts out with an upbeat song that most everyone will know.  It is titled “Oh I Want To See Him” and it is one of the great, classic songs about Heaven!  I know I cannot wait until the day that I see Christ in Heaven and I am sure that you cannot either!  Next on the project we find a song titled “Always Enough.”  I have always enjoyed this song that reminds that there is always enough of God’s Mercy and Grace to cover all of our sins.  What a great reminder and message as we deal with the long and rough road of life.  I have always loved the second verse of this song and have lived that one a time or two in my life!  “New Shoes” is the next song on the project and this upbeat song is an amazing song about that day we move on up to Heaven!

The next song on the project is a beautiful melody titled “I Have Not Forgotten.” I must say that I was not real familiar with this song but it is a great one!  I don’t know how a Christian could ever forget the amazing things that Jesus Christ did for them on the Cross and how He saved us!  One of the great up-tempo songs to come out in the past few years is “I Believe It All.”  I love this song and I love Ricky Atkinson and Compassion’s version of this amazing song!  Yes, it is true … I believe every single thing in God’s Word, I believe it ALL! It seems like I have heard several new versions of “I Know A Man Who Can” in the past couple of years.  I remember the original version by the Cathedrals that featured Kirk Talley as well.  The version on this recording is every bit as good as any other version I have ever heard.  I also love that message that God can and will help you no matter what your circumstances are in life.  One of the all-time great Southern Gospel songs is “My God Is Real.”  I was thrilled to see the song on this project and I absolutely love this version by Ricky Atkinson and Compassion!

The next song on the project is one of the most beautiful songs ever written in Southern Gospel Music in my opinion.  It is titled “Rest My Case” and the lyrics to this song and some of the most beautiful I have ever heard.  No matter what we have done or are accused of in this life, we can rest our case at the Cross and Jesus will handle it all!  What an amazing message and what a great song!  “Jesus Hold My Hand” is another of those great, classic songs and I must say that I never get tired of hearing it!  A very enjoyable version on this project!  Love it!  The final song on this project is titled “He Will Remember Me.”  This is another song I was not real familiar with but I enjoyed the song and wonderful message contained within it.

Ricky Atkinson and Compassion is a very talented male trio.  They have had numerous hit songs and have some very talented vocalists.  When a group like this records classic, well-known songs, well, you simply have a wonderful project!  This project contains ten songs that are all known in Southern Gospel Music and they are all performed very, very well.  The only problem with a favorites project is that it makes it nearly impossible for me to choose my favorite songs!  After all, they are all favorites!  However, I finally narrowed it down and chose “Always Enough,” “I Believe It All” and “Rest My Case.”  They are all wonderful songs and the really great thing about this project is that it is “Volume 1” which indicates that there will be more of them!  For more information on Ricky Atkinson and Compassion, visit their website at www.rickyatkinson.com.
