It seems like only a couple of weeks ago that I was reviewing another project by Deena Ashley! Actually, it was only a couple of weeks ago! Deena has been a busy person lately recording a couple of new projects. This latest one is a continuation of the excellence from the one from a few weeks ago.
Deena is a songwriter and the first song on the project was written by her. "Living In The Victory" is an upbeat song and it reminds us that if we are living with and for Christ, we are living in the victory that is already ours. It's a very good start to this project. That song would be considered a song of victory but the all-time great song of victory is "Victory In Jesus." Deena sings a rousing version of that song next and I loved it. Another of my favorite hymns is "Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus" and Deena's version of this song is also simply outstanding.

Artist: Shannons
Project Title: From The Heart
Label: Cedar Hill
Producer: Eddie Crook
Purchase this project at: www.theshannons.com
The Shannons are a family group that comes from Indiana and you will enjoy their family harmonies. Their latest project was recently received at our offices at the Southern Gospel Music Forum and you will enjoy it.
The project gets off to an upbeat start and "He's Everything To Me" is a great start to this project. The next song slows it down tremendously. "I'll Be So Glad I Made It Home" is a touching song that celebrates our journey to Heaven and our subsequent joy when we finally arrive! The pace picks up once again as the Shannons sing "Trading My Cross For A Crown." This song reminds us that we will someday trade our cross for a crown. "I'm Going Home" is another song about going to Heaven. That is a subject that I love and this song does a great job of reminding us about it.

Artist: Jeff & Sheri Easter, Lewis Family, Easter Brothers Project Title: We Are Family Label: Daywind Producer: Unknown Reviewed By: Scott Evans Purchase this project at: www.junipersquare.com Family is a great thing. I enjoy projects that celebrate family and when you are able to get three generations of family together on one project, well, something good has to happen. Recently, the Easter Brothers, the Lewis Family and Jeff and Sheri Easter got together and recorded this terrific project! "They're Holding Up The Ladder" is the first song on the project and you will enjoy this bluegrass song as they sing it to perfection. The next song was the debut single from this project. The song is titled "Slippers With Wings." You will enjoy this touching song. "In God's Hands" picks up the tempo once again and it does a fine job of reminding us that everything in our life we can put in God's Hands! A great message and a great song. |

Project Title: Are You Ready?
Label: Independent
Producer: Prentice Tyndall

Heaven Sent is a new group to me and I enjoyed listening to the latest effort from this group. Their latest project is titled "Are You Ready?" and it's a good one.
"Somebody Left The Door Open" is a song recorded not too long ago by the Daryl Williams Trio. In fact, Daryl wrote the song. This version is a good one as well. "You Better Get Ready To Hear Some Singing" is a good song that I don't think I have ever heard. It's a nice, upbeat song in that traditional Southern Gospel style. A Dottie Rambo classic is next and Heaven Sent tackles one of my favorites titled "I've Never Been This Homesick Before." It was great to hear that song again. Speaking of classic songs, the Rusty Goodman song "Who Am I" is next and it's a good performance on this classic song.

Artist: Liberty Quartet Project Title: Timeless Treasured Hymns 2 Label: Media-Springs Producer: Royce Mitchell, Doran Ritchey Reviewed By: Scott Evans Purchase this project at: www.libertyquartet.com We have received a lot of hymns projects over the past few months at the Southern Gospel Music Forum! I will never complain about that since I believe we don't sing the old hymns enough! Most of you know that I am also a big fan of male quartet singing so if you combine hymns and male quartet singing on the same project, you will have my undivided attention! The Liberty Quartet did just that on their latest project and it is awesome! "Jesus Saves" is a great hymn proclaiming the saving power of Jesus Christ and I love this version! "Have Thine Own Way" is another great old hymn with a prayer to Jesus asking Him to guide us. I have grown up in church and have sung most of these hymns numerous times. One of my favorite congregational hymns is next as the Liberty Quartet sings "My Savior's Love" and "And Can It Be" in a medley. "Battle Hymn Of The Republic" is still one of the all-time great patriotic songs. Unfortunately, not many sing it any more but it is on this project. Another medley is next as the Liberty Quartet combines "I Will Praise Him" and "Doxology." |
